Go Boeing, I've also been in touch with them but can’t seem to find a process improvement job that does not require +10yr experience. So I’ll need someone to get me in the door ;)

I would not have lasted this long...
I know being home is nice but with that kind of driving and long work hours why not stay overnight somewhere a couple days a week?

Lol, I've been working on this deal for over two months now. At first I was scared to get it, Then I was scared if I didn't.

It's a $28k/year paycut before overtime so it's not an easy decision but if I put in the hours I currently work, minus the driving, i can make the same money. You just can't bank on overtime.

I got pretty spoiled on salary. It sucks that you can work a ton of hours and not see a penny more but at the same time, you will never make less either.

We took a $40,000+ pay cut 5 years ago when my wife decided to be a stay at home mom. You would be surprised at what you can get by with.

Ready for her to go back to work!!! And put that money in the bank.

We bank 45% of our current income so it won't hurt us week to week but it will really cut into our savings plan. I need a newer vehicle and my wife really needs to go to school and get a degree.

I suspect we will be back on track within two years though, And hopefully living in Savannah.

Quality of life is priceless I was really happy in my current situation up until the last year, year and a half I have just been waiting for the right opportunity to get me out of it.

I'd make the switch. In fact, just 18 months ago I was trying very hard to make a switch myself, but for other reasons. Bullchit work, no way to move up, non-engineering job when that's my field, and no raises. Also totally retarded management. I put up with it for four years because the pay started out decent and they paid for my Master's. At the end of the four years, I made less than when I started once I figured in the worsening, horrible benefits and inflation. Don't ever work for Bechtel, they are bloodsuckers on every level and abuse their staff.
After years of trying, I got into a dream job doing research at a national lab doing cutting edge stuff in my field. Exactly my type of environment, excellent benefit, a promotion and pay raise after one year. Love it. Working on my next degree and its fully supported by work and in fact goes hand in hand with it.
And I bike to work every single day. Taken a vehicle maybe 4 times since October.

I'd be lost without the x
I'm trying to establish my first "real" job right now. Would really like to move down to the Carolina's, I just need somebody to hire me. Anybody know anyone who works for SCANA energy in SC or Duke energy in NC who could help a recent grad get a job in the nuke industry? Haha

Bravo on taking the new job, it is tough to walk out on the money but that commute would have been awful. I hope it works out for you!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going on about two years with a 2 hour per day commute...you've got me thinking. Good luck on the new endeavor.

Lol, you guys are brutal. We have very expensive all-in-one printers at work that save a copy of all documents for peer review. If you do personal business at work, they will know about it. The only way to send personal documents is via a dedicated fax machine.
