Everyone use to run the old Protec pipes on the 650s. They were considered the best at the time.

My RN has the Mach 1 pipe... It works good for me. I have not ridden many other skis with b-pipes to give you a thorough comparison. The Protec pipes sure sell for a lot less (used)

I ran a pro-tec pipe on my 650 (the one with the stainless chamber) and it did just fine.
Much better than stock and better than my friends Coffman Sizzler.

I've got a Mach 1 on my 650. HEAVY. But it's a solid pipe. Definitely wakes up that little motor. Sounds pretty good too. I paid $300 a couple years ago for a complete pipe/manifold/hardware.

My sons boat had one on it.

with a protec head too, that made really good power!

I think its a heavy design, and its difficult to install and remove compared to a B pipe or coffmans sizzler.

I think it makes better power than the sizzler though.

I just installed at test rode one on a friends boat last week. I was very impressed with the power we got out of it. His is the Mach 2. He paid about $200 for it. For a budget build it was a great option for him.

Does anyone have any pointers on installing one of these cast iron beasts?

I have read they are difficult to keep mounted properly.

I have searched a couple of times, has anyone ever done a tech thread on installing a pipe?

Even if it were for another brand it might give some insight.

i ran a mach 1 pipe on my sj for a long time. It produced as much power as the b-pipe but it cracked twice on me and would mist the engine compartment with steam and the motor wouldn't run. It was a very hard problem to diagnose. Also they are a pain in the a$$ to install and take out.

I agree it is a pain to remove and reinstall:argue:
I had to get all new lord mounts and figure out the trick
But, how often do you pull the pipe?
I did it to go to a high performance head
but now that it is back on there, it is staying!:fingersx:

thanks EvanB.

Can the motor go in and out with these pipes on?

Wouldn't it be easier to install the pipe with the motor on a bench?

Looking at Mike Serlin's avatar I could see where that heavy pipe might be prone to crack!

Still on the fence whether to install the Pro-Tec or suck it up and buy a B-Pipe.

If you have the money buy the b-pipe.

And also install the pipe in the boat.
