hey not a bad score. looks like it has the basics there to make something. how many hp that thing got? hahaa.
i have really been thinking and looking and thinking about my setup. having an electric motor on the cart itself is the best i think. and i have now put my quad axle on the cart with the shock. it also has the rear sprocket and can very easily be made to go electric. i just need to find a motor and a way to have a neutral. right now i am planning to use the open aread under the ski for storage and well beer, pretty much just beer. so going electric will suck in that way. i am also going to change up the tractor puller i have. We test drove it around a bunch and its a blast but as already mention it has poor traction because it is light and its load to tow is heavy. the dolly wheel isn't the problem for this but is needed when i am riding on it to hold my weight up. so, i am going to also add a hitch to the front so it can push. i am also going to add footpegs to the dolly wheel so i can steer better and ride on it while pushing. in sand uphill is still going to need me to walk but i think it may dig better when pushing. which ever way it works best is how it will get used. if it fails, back to the drawing board and go electric for simplicity. i will grab a pic to post up.

I keep looking for a used power wheelchair. I see chubbies flyin round' town on those things all the time so surely the drive motors would pull my fx1. If you had the motors and control box the rest would be simple. They are even designed to mount to a tube frame! Could be added to an existing cart.... Problem is the cost. I found a working Jazzy chair local on craigslist for $125 but haven't gotten a response. There's gotta be a junked chair around here somewhere though. Here's what I'm talking bout

hey blaster, maybe you posted it before but how do you freewheel the electric cart you made. that is my biggest problem with anything i have laying around the shop to use. i thought about stripping the axle of its. spline for the sprocket and drilling a shear pin thru both that can slip in and out.

Im using a winch motor with a gear attached to the spool as a power unit , there is a knob on the end of the spool that you pull out to let it freewheel , I have attached a cable to the knob so it can be operated at the handle when needed , so going down hill '' slight grade '' power wont be wasted

that is a tough design to beat. and you can have some jumper cables handy to jump start skis when need be. cattledog always brings a charger pack when we ride and it gets used all the time. having a nice car battery to power the cart and jump skis is perfect for both purposes i would think. i welded on my footpegs this morning and now steering is easy. well, easier. haha. i put the front hitch on too so i can push the dolly. it is much easier to use now and when walking behind, it pushes very well. still not sure about uphill in the last 15' of loose sand at our ride spot. that is the spot that just kills you when pushing it after a long day of riding. when lots of people are riding, its not a problem but with only one other guy it can be brutal. hoping that this makes it a bit easier. i thought about just bringing some plywood and stashing it in the bushes at the ride site just to make a path over that loose spot. the rest of the beach is packed and should be fine.

good idea d-roc I think youll end up using even bigger tires to get through the sand though,you wont need tread,just width to float the sand. We found a old jazzy chair,its the perfect setup for these carts,those motors on ebay look very affordable and nice for this project,you guys are deff on the right track there

i have two more mini quad tires that i have been thinking of adding to each tire, they are a bit taller but only by an inch or so, if they started to sink the treaded tires might help dig a bit. i may just go yank them off the hubs and check it out. the tractor is fun to drive but having some wheelbase would be nice so it doesn't ride like a 550.

I welded some extensions for the studs that hold the tires to the drive hubs. Then i bolted on the mini quad tires. Now it has some good gription and is not tippy. Yeah, I think that will work a bit better.

just playing

had some time to play today so I curved the handle so the nose of the ski has something to set against ,thats also where the winch crossbar will go through the handles at the height of the tie lug on the ski . will have better pic later when I do some welding first .....right now Im just trying to make it easy/comfortable to use so it self loads without any trouble...................EDIT : those rollers you see are only temp .

Im using small wheels on the tips of the pipes ... Im welding the brackets tomorrow and I made some 2 inch HDPE wheels that are ''snot slippery'' to put in them . this allows the dolly to drive right under the ski while its on the beach , it puts the ski half way on before you hook up the winch for the other half , at least thats how this one works anyways

reposting here to keep with discussion topic....

Why not a cart setup to use an adjustable drive belt wrapped around the ski's shaft?

Sure you have to solve for fitting around/between the intake grate, belt tensioning & slipping on the non-sprocketed driveshaft, the ski overheating, etc. But it would be trick to not have to worry about dunking the cart once you get to the water.
