anyone have any info on powered beach carts

I saw a guy on one of these about a month ago and the thing ripped @ atleast 7-10mph. The guy had to weight 100lbs MORE then my SJ. I was thinking that would be the perfect drive system for an elec cart.

I looked at the TRAVELSCOOT specs , Im not an engineer by any means , but I really dont think that motor has enough power for any kind of uphill grade toting 300 lbs of ski in sand with soft tires IMO , Its better to err on the overpowered side rather than underpower with all the effort it takes to build in the first place. as soon as you put on the tall sand tires you consume mega power . But hey ,go for it !

I agree, you are probably right. The only good news is that we have ALMOST no upgrade here. Pretty flat. And I am not looking for the cart to do all the work, just 70% of the work....lol I dont mind pulling as long as the kicker motor has enough thump to help push it through. The bad news is that the TRAVELSCOOTS are like $2000... I have another idea I'm looking into. I REALLY want to get something together for this season.

Buddy found a old rascal in the trash, its got a prettty stout motor and battery system, pretty sure they will work fine, especailly geared down,we only need to go maybe 4 mph max

I was messing around with this old quad frame that cracked in half. the picture is poor and doesn't show it well, but i found some sprokets and bearings to add an extra shaft with a big rear sprocket on one side and a motor size sproket on the other end. i had to swap the rear disc brake and sprocket. I am just playing around here with parts i got. i have a running mini quad just like this and may take that china motor with e-start and battery and move it into this frame, if it works good. i could then put a powerd winch on it too. I have this other stupid machine. i hate it and never use it and am going to take a look at it tommorrow to see if it is a better base to start with.

I got the old bcs sickle bar mower running, barely, and drove it thru the snow to the shop. I removed the bar and installed a hitch for my home beach dolly that i use by hand or with my quad. i was going to make the mini quad frame into a motorized version of this homemade dolly of mine. two wheels with the controls on the handle. i think it would work good and have everything to do it so i probably will. but yeah back to this thing. it has hand controls, 2 forward 1 reverse. the bar goes up and down and can spin around 180 degrees to push. I am not sure how i should use it, right now i am thinking i will shorten the dolly cart tongue and keep the ski back to give negative tongue weight, i will put a small air dolly wheel at the hitch's pivot point. if i get everything all right i should be able to sit on the nose of my ski, feet on the pegs and articulate steer. not sure if it will pull good with these tires in sand but i will try it out.

thanks man, if these little tires spin in sand i may need something bigger, i am going to work on it tonight a bit and see if i can go for a boot on it. I need a float for the carb because it is cracked and fills with gas and then allows fuel to run thru. i had jb welded it before but it never worked. i really hate this bcs mower and despite how amazing the youtube videos are, this thing is a workout. i have had tires fall off, gastank leaks, hubs strip, etc etc, it sat in my field for two months after it died. now it has a true purpose. long live the BCS.

Great Ideas here, .. Just use what you have....... I would not be surprised if those tires workout just fine 99 % of the time , your going to have plenty of weight on them for sure. BTW : Is it gonna have a loading winch ?... ''Battle of the dollies has begun '

if i build the miniquad dolly it will have a battery for the electric start, lights and horn. it would only make sense to put a cheap winch on it. tonight i shall do some cutting and welding on the old home made dolly that will be pulled by the BCS "tractor". it will still have the hand winch but i need to change how the rails work. i have my pump way out on my ski and don't want to pivot of my steer nozzle as i winch up and on the dolly. i will let ya know in a few hours how i make out.

I need something just to get it within a foot of the waters edge. Dont need to submerge the cart. I have 2 great surf ride spots less then a 1000' from my house, but both are +200' pulls in DEEP sugar sand, from the parking lot to the water. And completely impossible to do by yourself with a bigfoot cart.

especially for us little guys!

one time a few years ago I took my 97 GP12 to my supersecret private ride spot in michigan...........the inlet to the water fell about 15 feet short of the big lake so I had to drag it across deep michigan singing sands

it took me over 3 hours to get it that short distance and by the time I got it there I was too tired to ride....hahaha

Okay I have now gone for the maiden voyage on this thing. some words to describe the experienc: exciting, slightly dangerous, suprising, learning curve, tippy, impressive. just like riding a standup, nothing is quite like it. the dolly wheel makes the tractor turn like a towmotor but the trailer pivots from the same point and is where i stand. there is no steering but i can steer it somehow with body weight, grunting, and odd facial expressions. i already started to mod the dolly trailer to widen the stance and lower it. If this is a dolly contest, i got some ideas and one of them involves a hydralic pump for the attactment pto. haha
look how awesome the ride position is. also walking with it was easy because ice covered driveways are tricky to ride for newbies.

might I suggest extending the trailer tongue as close to the drive wheels as possible while keeping a wheel-loader pivot setup and ditching the dolly wheel? Your current setup would fail miserable in the sand I might add due to so much weight being A) not over the drive wheels, and B) on skinny tires. Your current setup may even have problems on a slight grass hill. Take this as constructive criticism.

I had been thinking a similar setup but with hydraulics to drive the load bearing wheels while keeping the engine out of the water.

in the sand i will have to step off and walk beside it, as you said when i am on it, there is not alot of weight on the drive wheels. but if i lift up on the bars it does make them dig. on the frozen driveway i had loose gravel and i did spin with me on it. once i stepped off and lifted up it somehow found traction on the frozen ground and pulled it back into the shop. i want the hydros to power a cylinder to lift and lower the dolly rail height for loading and to drive the axel of the trailer for extra pushing in the sand.

I had a few hours to rework the dolly. it now has the miniquad axel, bearings and suspension. it works much better if i load the ski backwards. When i load it backwards i put my steering nozzle up first so it won't take any of the lifting. i can sit in the tray and drive it on hard ground but it does seem to need help in the loose stuff. i will have to try it out and see. sand is brutal and this may not make it any easier if it is just spinning. having the ski's weight on the drive wheels would be much better than pulling a dolly. i will post a pic later of the new dolly.
