Just picked up an octane this weekend and took it out for the first time. Was not that happy with the low end power it had. Going to get the basic mods for the octane. Head, cdi mod, carbs worked over by watcon, freestyle cone and 85mm nozzle, shaved flywheel. I am debating if I should step up and get the cylinders ported by randy while I have the whole motor apart anyways. Anyone ever have him port your octane for freestyle? Was it a big change in low end power from before?

I believe he sends that out and has it done to his spec.

Get rid of the stock carbs and go with sbn mikuni's. Increase compression, I used 1200 domes and took .020 off. Either get a MSD TL setup, or lighten the OEM flywheel. I am also running V-Force III reeds, they seem to help the bottom a bit. This combo of mods will help the bottom end a good amount.

I would like to go with SBN's but its not in the budget. I am hoping when randy works his magic on these they will be good enough. Thats why I am thinking about getting porting now because I would guess he could jet the carbs perfect for his porting specs while he has then both at his shop.

I am building this boat for a friend so it has to be a turn key package. I was hoping he has some porting specs and can set the stock carbs up perfect to match his porting.

Cylinder porting

Our cylinder porting is done "in house" if we arent too busy.. If I'm backed up, I have (2) grinders that port to my specs. (Yamaha, Kawasaki & Polaris) and they have worked with me for over 15 years.

If you prefer, you can purchase our Pre-ported cylinder sleeves and do it yourself. There really is a special "magic" that a good grinder can perform, and it only comes with years of experience. Its not just about the duration numbers, the roof angles, inlet & exhaust shapes, etc all combine into a excellent job and performance gain!

Our average price is $450.00 for the cylinder, and crankcase modifications vary. The Octane has much better case design than the Kawasaki or Yamaha. The crankshafts are also much more durable.

Our average "turnaround" time is 3 weeks.

Thanks,
Randy

I think you would notice huge gains from different carbs.
My Octane hit pretty hard down low, but it is so heavy it will never feels like it hits as hard as a superjet.

Mikuni's are almost a must IMO, definately the best mod I have done. I rode an Octane over the summer with 48 novi's, MSD TL and a Waton girdled head. The ski had awesome bottom end hit, the middle was not a ton different than mine with the stock ignition. Mikuni's can be done with a budget, PM me if interested.

I agree with cjbchopper... the stock keihins gotta go! I'm running Dual 46 Novi's, VF-3's, higher compression domes, Watcon Ignition curve, etc...

Can't go wrong with Randy's help on an Octane!

I have (and several others) gotten a setup from cbjchopper's contact. They are a dual Mikuni's jetted with a manifold ready to go.

Just to update this post. I ended up getting all the work done to my friends octane. Cant really say what parts helped the most but I know if made a huge difference in power over all. I put on the dual SBN 46's. Had watcon port the cylinders, cases, and recut the heads for 91 octane pump gas. I also had the manifold ported and matched and the B pipe head pipe opened up. There was a few other little things I did but this engine really came to life. Had good low end but really kicked in the mid range all the way to high end power. I was say if you wanted to get more low end out of it you would have to run race gas compression and or a total loss ignition. But the way I had it was still a great freestyle/rec ski just still doesnt hit as hard as a worked over superjet engine.
