Anyone using an EPIC?

I am running an EPIC cdi on my 98 SJ. I cannot seem to get it to connect when I hook a lap top up to it to program 2 curves Chris from air time gave me. I have tried 2 different computers. Chris has been very helpful but I still can't get it to connect. Anyone else have this problem or can maybe help me out?

We hooked up to both ours this weekend no problems. I am using an up to date versiom of Vista.
What operating system are you using. What com port is the adapter using? Sometimes you have to go into device manager and look up which com port was assigned to the adapter.

Is the battery in your ski fully charged and the tether installed? Some of the jss switches will crank with the tether attached and some will not.

I didn't have to set anything on mine. I loaded the drivers, connected the cable. Loaded the software and then connected to the unit and it picked right up.

I'll run thru the setup again tonit when I get home. I connect to plc's and remote hmi's so frequently I usually don't even register the small no brainer stuff like baud and parity even if I did set them.

Neither EPIC or the newer FLAME ignitions use Hyperterminal except for re flash. You do not have to alter any of the settings for your COM ports either. You do need to go into Device Manager and check the drivers are installed for the programme lead, and install them manually if the auto install did not work.

The ignition should get power even without the tether. As long as it has power you should be able to comunicate wth it.

Totally off topic but 'Some of the jss switches will crank with the tether attached and some will not.'

Why would they crank without a lanyard? Why would you use a lanyard if it will crank without it?

Just something I noticed a while back. My SXR did the same thing as my SJ. The ski will crank but not start. Maybe it was the OEM and not the JSS because because both my skis now have full JSS electrics and neither will crank without the tether on.

One bonus is you can just pull the tether and crank away for testing compression without having to hold the stop button in.

If your cable is plugged into port 6 but the software is using com port 3, you won't get any results.
Sometimes multiple USB devices tie up com ports. Last week I was using a new piece of software for programming TR Encoders that put the driver on port 13. I had to manually configure the port to 3 to get it to communicate.

It is also important that you note which USB port you install the drivers to and continue to use the same one. otherwise you may have to configure the port each time you use a different port.
