Anyone with type 9 experience

I have some experience with it. It is a very good race pipe. It does take some work to get dialed in. It like a lot of compression and timing to make work. A low pitch prop on the bottom also helps.

So just a msd enhancer and a TBM flywheel and about 190 psi would not be a good combo for this pipe?

The only way we got them to run real well was using total loss with 30+ degrees initial timing. You aren't going to get that kind of timing with an enhacer. I think the max timing you get is around 22 degrees. You would be better off runing a type 4 pipe with your set up.

Yep, 185+ compression, and 30+ degrees of timing and you'll be set.

Total loss, or a lightweight charging flywheel is the key.

I got more bottom end puch with a type 9 than I could ever get with a b-pipe. Sounds silly, I know, but it works...

Wattage is right
you need racks of timing and it comes alive
its a great pipe and makes heaps of power
i pulled my one back to about 15 at 7100 to help it rev on up top then started racking timing back in at 7300 taking it to about 18 at 7500

IMHO all type 9 and type 4 pipes should be run over with a truck multiple times and then blown to bits with some large explosives and then shot with a AK74.

The racers can have them.

We may be doing it to a type 4 here in Cleveland soon. If so we will post the vid.

Its a good pipe
some people struggle to set it up correctly the b-pipe is alot easier to get running right

the b-pipe will give you better throttle response if you dont have a decent amount of timing in your ski

I ran a type 9 for a while until sending it to australia . It ia all in the setup and tuning and makes incredible power from the bottom and revs to oblivion. when done right .I ran MSD TL with it mapped about like waxs setup and with a race gas bigbore , 200lbs comp. 48 novis . Also ran a stinger reducer and had played with water routing , restrictors .I found in cooler weather if the chamber ran to cool it wasnt as strong running on top. ECWI was also a big part of getting it to hit hard off the bottom. Also 14 vein setback mag .Without a mag pump all that power is wasted .
Only issue I had was the high RPMs wearing out the topend quicker and the fact it weighs a good 10 lbs more than a B Pipe . Now that the ski is no longer race setup , the weights not needed and the B limited does the job with less hassle.

We can argue over and over about which pipe is the best but whats important is what its the intended function of the setup. For racing or someone who likes to ride around with a race engine then the type 9 is a great pipe. For a free rider then the b-pipe is easier to set up gives all the power in the range needed. I think smashing a pipe for a statement is a waste of a pipe some other rider could use and we are a dying breed. They are not making pipes anymore.

Who is not making pipes anymore?

I usually care about other riders needs but if you someone needs this type 4 in Cleveland..........well...tough........I am buying it and smashing it flat and lighting it on fire and then shooting it and sinking it to the bottom of Lake Erie.

That is if Brian will let me or at least sell it to me so I can do it.

What the hell for?

My Type 4 is kickin' judo

Because I hate them more than spiders.

They irritate me and require BS strainers and coupler replacements to often. And they DON'T AND WILL NEVER hit on the bottom like a B.

MAYBE...and that is a HUGE MAYBE......with a 170HP motor.

I just don't want to see any newbs make the mistakes I did and lose ride time.

They suck for this forum and it should be plain for the world to see. STAY AWAY 4's and 9's. They are the devil.

4 and 9's are for racers and they dont care about blowing couplers, etc
as long as they can set it up to win on raceday
hi maintenance is just the cost of doing business
not for rec use

If you are blowing couplers often, it is becuase you dont have the chamber and manifold lined up. I always dry fit the two without the orings. Most of the time you hae to open mounting holes on the chamber to get them lined up. Once you do that, you wont be blowing couplers. I would change out my coupler maybe once a year and thats just because I felt like it. I cant remember ever once burning one up.

If you are not a good tuner your type 4 of 9 will not make good low end. If you are a good tuner , your dry pipe setup will make more power than a B Pipe .,bottom /mid/and top end . Period.
