Are Yami's wannabe Kawi's

WILKEY

SO FAR CHANGE SUCKS!!!!!!
jeez u freakin ladies kill me, who the F cares? 550,800, superjet, fx1. does it really matter as long as it gets ya on the water? i know personally i take yami all day but id ride a kawi if it got me in the surf. so what point do you prove to say yamaha sucks, does it make yourself feel better for buying a kawi?... :moon::moon::moon::moon::moon::moon::moon::jester::jester:

Wow this started out as an informative thread before people decided to take gigantic sh*t on it by turning into one more kawi vs yamaha thread.

I know, and you were even very cordial about requesting that it not become one.

can we please take this back to a technical discussion regarding the internal workings of the engines being discussed?

i see this stuff happen all the time with street bikes harley's the best, suzuki's the best and honda's the best.. wilkey has it right if it gets you on the water who cars what it is! i think x2guy was asking why do all the big yamaha's run alot of kawi parts and a very similar setup.. i dont think you could compare a gp with a sxr motor doesnt it have power valves?

seriously, this has been covered a lot of times. if you search you'll find pics of port angles and transfer roof angles of yamaha motors vs kawi motors.

kawi was designed to have high rpm hp and yamaha was designed to have a more efficiency and torque. it's not a mystery.

so like i said you couldent really compare them.. not that this was supposed to be about comparing anyway.. so i guess the final is that its just do to the porting why people stick with yami's for bottom end?

I was going to generally say that the yami cylinder was better engineered but that's not true because you need a girdled head to keep it from cracking. In my mind, the yami cylinder was designed very well but there were certain things they didn't think about. The kawi cylinder appears to have been designed exceptionally well but I'm guessing they either ran into budget problems which resulted in shortcuts or possibly because of budget problems, had their 18 y/o interns design the last 10% of the engine and they ruined it.

please quit guessing and search. kawi did a good job of designing what that motor was meant for, stock class racing.

nobody fell ass backwards into their motor design.

I think he is wanting direct feedback to his inquiries, not forum instructions.

ok, I'm not looking up the diagrams though.

kawi's transfers point at the exhaust port to help them process as much fuel as possible. the port roofs also point at the exhaust port for the same reason. this helps create more high rpm horse power.

yamaha ports point toward the center of the cylinder and the roof angle points more toward the cylinder head to create a more complete burn. a more complete burn gives you better fuel economy more torque and low/mid range power.

good post, Tim.

I think he's asking since the ports on the kawi engine can be modified to perform as well as the yami port setup, since the kawi has a longer stroke, can't the kawi be made to make more power, overall?

I'm not and expert but speculation on my part...

I don't thing there is enough wall thinkness in the transfers to change the angle to point toward the center of the cylinder. I guess you could fill with epoxy or devcon. same with the roof angle, it would need to be filled.
