I think anything Art touches is like gold.

Since you can roll a stock SX-R without holds, you may not need the extra.

The N&S were at 1.5, not 2.5. It really looks like a 1.8 but apparently, they don't make it.

I dropped from 95g spring to 80 and dropped the 82.5 to 80 pilot. I think they'll cancel each other out but allow me to keep my idle a little lower.

Hopefully the ramp will be slow enough to allow me some trailer testing.

1.5 is stock, 2.5 is huge by comparison. I read the 1.5's will flow all the fuel the carb is capable of delivering. Did he fill the manifold crossover?

Group K filled it when I got the big bore done.

I returned it to where Art had it today:

pilot 82.5
main 155
N&S 1.8
95g spring
raised my idle to 1800 out of water RPMs

FYI, he has told me that in order for the carb tuning to work properly, it must have a decent idle speed.
This is for my bigbore SJ engine, but I am sure the same principles apply.

Honestly, I had no idea of the importance. Gil was the first to take me to "idle school" last Friday. I have always just turned my idles way down.

Good call. I'm taking it back out Thursday.

If this carburetor works good on the bottom end then it should be very good in the top end. It sure looks like it will flow some massive air with out the booster in the way.
I hope you keep us posted on any fine tweeking with the jetting. I am thinking of this set up for my 800 engine in my old school X-2. I want to stay away from the 44 mikunis and this looks like the most you can get from the oem 40 mm mikunis.
Are you still using the same jetting that Art originally set them up with?

After a minor mod to an item other than carbs-it really came to life bottom, mid, and top. This thing runs awesome and carburates perfectly!

I talked to Jet works and they said one to two weeks on the carb work and they actually recommended I use the tau ceti and their adapters because this gives better air entry geometry and more flow at high rpms. They only recommend the stock air box for customers that are concerned about water ingestion. I am dropping mine off and having them power tune in their test tank afterwards. I am also getting their longer adjuster screws. This sounds like a good set up because I really did not want to run dual 44's and I needed more than a single 48.

I was running single cooling in and dual out. Huge difference in returning it to single out.

Thanks to Crammit and Gil for that one.

Hey Mike, which ski is this in? Your open boat or the stocker?

Open.

Can you elaborate on that one?

I have a single line coming in from my pump. It feeds the bottom of the manifold and exits the head in two spots, one of which goes directly overboard (into the pump area) and the other goes to the bottom of the headpipe and out the top to the restricted stinger and overboard to the front pisser.

My front pisser was gently pouring water overboard. I closed off one of the lines leaving the head (the rear) and now just run the front one.

Going to bump this tread. Was wondering if there was a significant difference in gas consumption with the BJ over the stock carbs? I am thinking of having this done this winter.
