B-1 Dropdeck Project

It definitely seems like a daunting project!, but it can be done, just takes time and $ of course! I like the way Frank has set this up!

Ok : Brought my ski back out to play with it some more. did some thinkin and fittin , I can see it in my head a little better, so what I need right now is some info on what is the best ,easiest glass material to form my curves and put my pieces back together ?? I already have a ton of ROVING GLASS MATERIAL and it wont turn corners very easy ! I plan to use epoxy rather than poly resin and I will most likely use blue foam and possibly a little poured in foam where I need to combine my curves to the 1/4 inch thick deck I will reuse ..........any input or personal mistakes you have made that I could learn from will help !. Dolly is 99% done , so dont ask about it yet and I already thinking about another version LOL ! !

feel free to call any time frank. big glass projects suck and take patience (really suck when everyone wants progress reports but nobody wants to do any sanding). if there is a weekend that nothin is goin on and we have crappy weather maybe i can grab matt and take a ride out your way and we could give you a hand.

Well are planning on foaming, shaping and glassing it on? that would be a mistake IMO. I would always rather have a piece glassed inside and out.

The short quick and dirty way would be to build it up with foam(debate the kind to use later-I use pour foam it shapes easy with body tools) leave it below the surface to allow the thickness of your glass. lay up and then spend hours grinding and sanding and reglassing etc.

the way I would do it (usually cause its the longest slowest hardest way- prob not any better lol) shape and bondo and sand til its what you want. paint, prime or gelcoat so you have a nice smooth finish, I have even just pulled from the bondo with it sanded smooth. gelcoat and lay up a mold. prep mold, gelcoat mold and lay your hull up. grind the edges down, glass it in inside and outside.

thanks for the PM smurf , great info that I needed . And Tom21 : I think Ill go somwwhere in the middle of your reccomendations , but I will glass inside and out of the joints ........ But Im not layin up any moulds ! Thanks for the input guys .. it helps !

That Damn Daytona thing got in the way again ! so I been converting my 2 bunk trailer to a 4 bunk and my powered ski dolly to make the deadline ,Im kinda slow too LOL

Here is my skunkworks dropdeck project for my B-1 , Im doing this now so I stay motivated by lookin at my own pics this winter ., Im making some surf mods to the hull , as you can see I did not want to build the standard flat-deck so I actually dropped the deck 4 inches by chunking out some of the hull It also allows me to keep the foot angles in the deck and also allows you to stand closer to the hull instead of the deck ''sounds good to me anyways , I think this will get the CG a little lower since It seems to me that the B-1 is high in this area . One other thing I plan to accomplish by doing this is , when side mounting It will allow you to be 2 inches closer to the side of the hull by removing the side lip, I also bang my knee on this appendage anyways so its got to go !! , Yea ,Yea, I will make up the strength another way, but nothing ventured nothing gained IMO !.. BTW /The front of the hull will be moded also ... feel free to give up your opinions as it may give me some more Ideas !! FWIW here are the pics

Chris frank is still working on the extremely complex circuit board for the gloves. We all want a a pair of magic hands! You should be more intersetted in the hydraulic steering system
