Great job! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Whoa whoa whoa man I didn’t do this.. if I did it it would’ve been much worse!
I’ve never seen anyone do this to a MSD coil before but it ran great so it’s STAYING

Got around to working on the hood for a little today
About 4 hours with the orbital to strip the old paint most of the way off
Hoods in pretty bad shape, lots of half ass repairs were attempted with some sort of Walmart epoxy at some point.

Removing the liner isn’t really a option so things get a little bit tricky here
There’s a fair bit of cracking where the liner meets the shell sadly
So I used a pick to break out all the loose pieces and used a air grinder to trench out the hairline cracks/remove any stubborn bits.5DDA0965-E883-415D-9D02-15335E75DF8B.jpeg

Excuse the table I swear it’s not mine Lol
Gameplan is to fill the trenches with 3m panelbond and in the bigger gaps the same stuff but with strands of fiber mixed in to prevent it breaking apart down the line.
Once the cracks are filled and the panel bond cured I’m going to do a layer of carbon over the entire inside and out to the edges to stiffen things up a bit.
Then she’ll get some bigger breathin tubes.

As far as the damage to the outside.. this is the worst of it. Pic below was after the loose material was removed and the cracks semi dished out. 5F104761-DBC9-4625-B635-B7FEEDBD689E.jpeg

Since i cannot remove the liner to build the damage up from the inside I’ll have to dish out the surrounding areas and build it back up with layers of carbon.
Can’t wait to feather that back in :)
I was on the fence on attempting to wrap the entire hood in a visual layer but I don’t think it’ll come out the way I want even with vacuum bagging.

Wonder if you could cut all the way around the liner, about 2” smaller? Remove what you just cut and make your repairs. Then bond it all back together

Not sure, was thinking the same thing maybe with a little cutoff wheel but I’m worried I’ll end up with something unfixable

You’re doing great!
thanks! You weren’t lying about that can of worms !
My next question is on how I’m going to rebond the two pieces.
If I leave the old epoxy on the liner it will perfectly fit back into place but then I’m counting on the integrity of the old epoxy to stay in one piece. If I grind it all out I’m not sure how I’ll relalign the halves or if I’ll even have much of a surface to epoxy to then

Grind some the the thickened epoxy down.Enough to allow more to be added.Mix up your epoxy with cabasil and pour it out on a piece of cardboard.Add some fiberglss shards about a 1/4” to1/2” long and mix them in.Apply a good decent amount to the underside of the hood and inside of the liner.Stick them bitches together
