Backi Chan w/Dasa 1000 + the works completely submerged and rescued

Not everyone rec rides. My boat doesn't have flotation for a reason not because I can't afford it lol. My ski is setup so that any water immediately goes into the tray area. This avoids water ingestion and it's lite. My ski is a purpose built flat water beast.

Josh,

This is true. You normally do your flat-water flips close to where we hang out on the beach. Rarely do you chase boats with us. But that last boat was probably too tempting to pass up. :)

Unfortunate thing is this won't be a lesson to someone else down the line as they think it won't happen to them and they'll lose their ski. Especially when there's a X welfare program to send these folks freebies.

I had foam. In mine and got a rope around it. still lost it in the ensuing waves poop happens.

I lost a 16000 dollar ski that I spent about 5 years building and saving up to. This welfare program you talk about is getting me back on the water with a bunch of random miss matched parts (for which i truely am gratefull for)I would not be riding for. Years again or at all if it wasn't for the encouragement and help.
but it's not like I'll ever have what I lost in free replacement. (or expect it) it's not a welfare program it's a people are fn amazing program

I don't know what you mean by a stok bracket on a backie chan? They also don't have anywhere to tie unless you it a hole. The bow eye on a Superjet is not designed to pull a ski plus 50 gallons of water. It works for a bit in emergencies tho. Again the pole Bracket is te strongest part of a ski. Fact. It does not have to be the only spot to pull from on a ski tho. Just the strongest.

You're the one that mentioned stock SJ bow eyes are weak and use of the pole bracket is better. All I'm saying is that's not the case, and telling anyone that runs stock setup is to do so is not good advice. Your Chan may be the exception but not the rule.\

Do you ride for a living or for the "sport" of it? If the latter I got news for you, you are a rec rider. lol
Anyway, sorry if I inferred you couldn't "afford" foam (which I don't think I did). But I will disagree with whatever reason you have for not having foam in the first place, then for not having other means to account for the fact you don't have foam. There are ways to have foam and still move water the way you want, and if the ski is such a beast then 5-15 pounds really won't make such a difference.

I don't know your backstory, if you had foam and rope on it then that is an unfortunate case. That comment wasn't directed towards you, more of just an open statement from being around here for many years. And "welfare" isn't a bad thing when a misfortune comes along, but if you disregard common sense and try to redeem on it then it is. Disregarding common sense is taking an object that doesn't float into treacherous or deep waters and chancing that nothing bad can happen.

Foam doesn't make much of a difference in most freestyle hulls, there's not enough space for foam to keep them floating

Debatable. Anything would help add buoyancy and help a guy with a vest from getting pulled under like in Josh's scenario. What would have happened if he went another 2-3 minutes before help arrived?

Ask the guys who had a ski with no foam that's lost them if they have regrets.

If I recall correctly Royal Flush had a ski with no foam (not known at the time) that lost the hood and was lost for a good month or two before being found. The $ and headaches searching aren't worth the risk of doing whatever you can preemptively, he'd be one of the first to tell you.

Yeah sticking another scupper in it. Steve gave me one. It wasn't the scuppers fault. It didn't break the flap. The whole thing popped out. Gonna make sure it's glued in better this time.
