Question for you experience barrell roller..ers, what wave is the best one to hit for rolls? I can do stabs better off the second wave from the boat but i can get much higher off the 1st wave? Any ideas or is it just preference?

Gil,

Geek has the right idea... Keep your pole low... It is tough on the SXR.. but with boat wakes can easily be done. I can't even come close without waves though... but I am sure it can be done. I think I am going to tie my pole down so I can learn flatwater ones. I have nothing else to do until we get waves here!!

Last year i was trying flatwater rolls and could only get my stock sj half around. I have alot more power this year and ive only been out four times now and im happy to say i had my first good roll last weekend. I find it much easier and controlable to roll off my own wake than rolling off a boat wake. seems like the boat wakes throw you higher up instead of helping you roll to the side.

pete im ready to come out and ride the surf now. pretty sure marsh really wants to come out with me. just need to find some time off work

;)

I put that XFT pole on my squarenose SJ and it has dual bolts like the x-metal pole. That set up makes a huge difference for flatwater. Last season I rode with an AC pole an a pole spring ( to make the pole feel nice and light)...........the problem was when you go inverted or start spinning the pole wants to drift away from you and it was difficult for me to remain in control of the nose of the ski. When you tighten those bolts down that pole stays where you want it. It takes some getting used to but I have been on a couple ski with that set up and I'm lovin it, which is why I went with the dual bolt setup.

Werd!...

Trying rolls and big stabs with floppy poles is risky IMHO - I find the pole goes up as you invert and you end up between the pole & the hood! :aargh4:
Go stiff - its really the only way!..:Banane01:

Pancaker,
I have had a less opportunities to get in the surf than I would like up here since I rode with you but when I did I was rolling off pretty small stuff compared to jersey. So now I am thinking of what to do in the lake. Is the turn left, then roll right technique the same in the lake as it is in surf? Just a lot more critical timing?

Timing, quicker setup and if you can try some setup wakes or off boat wakes. Or ********, just come down here next weekend. LOL:Banane01:

I got a Bell Rhythm Pro helmet that is actaully real comfortable that I wear w/trying rolls.
You guys can't begin to imagine how stoked I am since Lanier!
I sucked at motocross for the last several years and was embarrassed to be out there it got sooooo bad trying to keep up w/14 year olds.
Now this-and I -think- I can hang. I want to be in the line up w/
Pancake Pete, Stoyer, Ratti, Pardaddy, and so on at Lanier next spring. It's probaly just a pipe dream, but I'm going to try REAL hard.
Thank all u guys for the inspiration and hope!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, I hear ya about the 14 yr olds at the tracks(i ride a kx250). About the sxr BR; me, Scott and John are "racing" to see who roles the sxr's first and after meeting everyone at lainer I'm afraid there youth may put them in the lead! This week'nd were (13 of us) are heading to Lake of the Ozark, the boat wake are un-real, ahole diferent catagory than GA. Lou
