Super Jet Bent steering cable...

So at the end of the riding season I towed a small boat of rednecks and some kids in with my SJ for about a mile. I felt bad leaving them floating out there without any gas. When I was done I noticed my steering was tweaked. I had the bars cocked half right to go in a straight line.

The other day I went into the garage, I tried to turn the bars and it was hard to get any movement out of it. I released the cable from the nozzle and it seemed fine. Reconnect it there and then released it from the bars and it was able to move somewhat freely.

My question is, are bent steering cables easy to repair or do I need to look for a replacement?

I have straightened a few now and had them work for quite a bit longer.

Order a spare immediately, that should just about guarantee that the old one will last several more years. :bigok:

I straightened one after my UMI steering came apart and then rode another full season on it. I bought a spare right away but never installed it until I swapped everything over to my new hull. Second ride out with the new cable and I bent the crap out of it. Murphy's law sucks!

I'd recommend if you get a new cable, stick with an OEM cable or a blowsion hd cable. Don't go the sbt route, there was a thread on steering cables recently.. And sbt was not highly ranked, which are the ones JM sells.

My wife was pulling on the bars on her ski one day and said this is binding up and really hard to turn?............... The strap was still on the back of the ski to the trailer and she bent the stearing cable end with the nozzle stuck on the strap. LOL had to replace because it snapped bending it back. We didn't ride that day.

That's a sad story Mark! I haven't pulled it out of the hull yet, but it is binding really bad. I am going to check it out from there...hopefully I can repair it. I'll post some pics when I yank it on Saturday. Thanks for the advice guys, you all rock!

You can also run a gp760 steer cable with a few modifications, they are a bit cheaper than the heavy duty cables, but are just as strong, we run these on the stryker hulls and they work great. They have 6mm ends just like the heavy duty cables

What do you have to mod?

Agree 100%.... get the OEM Yamaha cable for 2006-2007 skis. It is slightly beefier than 1997-2005. Or buck up for the Blowsion.

I picked up a cable from JM and I'm not to happy with it. it dosnt have a smooth action like all my other skis. its also a bit long with my shortned pole. because of these factors I'm going to replace it with something different this winter. If I knew it was a sbt I wouldn't have bought it.

Let me know as I have the Blowsion and oem cables in stock. My location is in Havasu.
