Best place to go to get my cylinders bored

If you can find a good machine shop that works on smaller engines, that's a good place to go. Be sure to chat with them a little just so they kind of get to know you, you'll end up getting better service probably.

Otherwise, I'd send them off to LPW or somewhere, whoever is closest to cut down the shipping cost.

Be sure to wash the jug in hot soapy water and clean the ports with a toothbrush to get all metal filings out, rinse well, and spray with WD-40 AS SOON AS you take it out of the water to dry because it will rust in seconds once you clean all the oil off and it hits the air.

Do I need to tell them how much to bore out to, or are the sizes all standard? I mean by going up by .5mm? So some yahoo wont under/over bore it?

Well feel free to post up some websites for places to go check out or contact info.... I prefer interenet/email because I work overnights and its easier for me to just email from work or surf the web from work...

I would feel comfortable taking my cylinder to any shop that has experience with two stroke/small motors. Basically, anyone that has experience with quads, dirtbikes, motorcycles.... Its easiest if you have your pistons in hand so that they can measure the pistons and then clearance them appropiately. The first cylinder I had done I just took to a local shop, with my Kawi manual for them to reference (I had bookmarked and highlighted clearances and such). They did a great job.

I would send mine to Pro-Tec. They are not relly local for you, but I would use a shop that has experience in watercraft engines. Or Riva. Might cot a little more than a local shop, but it will be done right.

Just send it to Paul at LPW. No worrying, no BS. The guy works on skis day in and day out and it will be done right. He does boring in shop.

I thought I did that? Anyway, good points by everyone. A couple things I would like to add.... 1. Be sure to ask whether the shop chamfered the ports or not. I personally like to do this myself, so I wouldn't pay them to do the service. I have seen shops that don't chamfer enough which would cause the ring to snag. All that money you just spent would go to waste. 2. After you clean the jugs with soapy hot water, you NEED to clean the cylinders out with Choke and Carb Cleaner. Find the acetone based stuff, not the kerosene based stuff. Keep cleaning until the paper towels or rags come out entirely spotless. You will be surprised how much soapy water doesn't get out. If the jugs aren't spotless, it'll lead to premature engine failure.

Has anyone had GORDY ( I think pacific jetsports) do any boring and machine work?

Ive contemplated the cheap piston deals they have, and they offer cheap boring also.

i'd be the last to knock G.O., he has helped me out a few times. Never had any work done there, but from my experience most cheap prices are cheap work.

I'd go someplace reputable.... GroupK, Z Force, LegDrag... lots of guys around on the forums do good work. I'll vouch for RD - Youngs Performance as a few have. I had a set last year, luckily he is local for me. he even cleaned up ports a lot better then anyone I've had do a bore without port work at same time. Got another set there now.

i do not bore cylinders, but .... i have been told more then once... if you squeek a piston or very minor damage you want to clean up in a 0.25mm increment it is a heck of a lot easier for machinest to clean up if you can go in same boring bar.
