I just used a new pair of regular old scissors last time I did it. One trick that seemed to work well for me to keep the edges from fraying was laying masking tape around the edge and then cutting through the tape. I left just under 1/4" of tape around the perimiter and just layed that side down so you didn't see it.

I haven't worked with carbon. I usually work with 1209 or 1708.

I use the titanium scissors from Home Depot. They come on a 3-pack of sizes for less than $20. I use the smaller ones on thin stuff and the bigger ones on heavy stuff. They cut nice. I'm not sure they are always there but they are in the front of the store at Xmas.

Do you have a picture or brand ?

You guys know shears can be sharpened right? My wife does hair and they have a guy who comes by once a month or so and sharpens their shears for a nominal fee. Its worth the 10 dollars or whatever he charges since she pays like 200 for a set of shears. Have your wife or gf ask who sharpens theirs. They can make even a cheap pair cut better.

I've got a pair of Mundial scissors and just keep sharpening them. Had them for about 10 years now.
Also have some Kai scissors as well and they are real nice!
