Best ski for my budget?

Wanting to upgrade from my 1990 550sx. I wouldn't be upgrading until next season or possibly later, but I think the most I want to spend is $2000. I am 15 so its going to take me a while but I don't want to get a cheap pile and would rather save up for a clean ski. I ride on lake St Clair in the north channel so I'm leaning towards a superjet for "freestyle" rather then racing. I also ride in the trails alot (flatwater). Is a rn superjet in my budget, not a fan of sn. What about a 750? Not really a freestyle ski but in budget.

With a 2k budget your likely stuck with a square nose 701, this is still a huge upgrade over your current ski though. I've bought 2 96 RN Superjets for 2k in the past 5 years, each which were both stock. 2k for a RN is a hell of a deal/steal and an extremely rare find. Also take into account I'm on craigslist all the time and as soon as I saw them dropped what I was doing to pick them up, otherwise their gone..

An RN ski is not in your budget. Why aren't you a fan of a squarenose? The bottom deck is the same and they ride pretty much identical to the pre08 roundnoses..
For around 2k get yourself a squarenose with a 701(either buy a 650 sn and drop in a 701), put in footholds, and get a roundnose pole and conversion bracket, and a scoop grate and a stainless prop. You'll be satisfied for awhile. Maybe you'll find one with all of that stuff for around that price. But for your budget, a square is what you'll find..

Yeah there's alot of sn in my budget on Craig's list. For sure getting one with a 701. I prefer the rn but I would settle with a sn, still huge upgrade from 550.

Learn everything you can on an SN and then go to an AM hull in the future. Now you can find some am hulls for the price it'd cost to buy a roundnose over a square!

If i could do it over again (superjets) I would buy a 701 square, foot holds, RN pole, Tubbies, B pipe, Prop and ride the snot out of it... Till i could get a AM hull and use it as a donor.

Around here you can pick up an fx-1 for about 2K when they pop up. not sure about your area, but I think you should seriously consider one. It will be like a 550 with a 701 in it. Small, flickable, and fun. Not great for carving but it doesnt sound like that will be an issue to you.

1995 superjet is really growing on me, especially with stock graphics. Also wont be getting a new ski till the end of this upcoming season. I would consider a fx1 because its so similar to the 550, but just looking right now. Also if you had the choice for your first ski would you get a early round nose, square nose 701 for $1000 cheaper, or fx1. I know its preference but what would you get.

I have an 08 superjet and an fx1. I spend more time on my fx1 but the SJ is a much better all around ski. While I do prefer The fx1 it is certainly more challenging and can sometimes be frustrating for me. I personally don't care for square noses much because the couple I have been on porpoised like crazy. I'm told it's all about the setup and that some square noses don't do that. I doubt you will find a decent round nose for 2k but I could be wrong. The market in your state could be completely different than the one in my state. Let us know what you end up with.

Don't buy a square nose. They suck. You can't do anything on them.

At least that's how most guys feel. I like my squares.
Ride time will do you a lot more good than a fancy ski. Just make sure the ski you are on is mechanically sound.

I went from a 550 to my SN with a 701, pipe, prop, and high comp head and it was like going from a 50cc pit bike to a race ready 250. Regardless what you get, whether it be a fx1, SN, or RN anything with a 701 is gonna be a giant leap from the 550.

Haha remember first time I rode a superjet, it was modded out. I thought I was going to flip over lol.

That's how I felt when I got mine, lol. Then I went to a ported 701 in a carbon superjet I was really blown away. Either way as long as you get tray time on something it's gonna be a good day!

I went from a kawi 300sx to a stock 650 square and it was like going from a tricycle to a rocket ship

Def don't buy a square. You will hate how fast and hard you can ride it and all the money you save compared to a round. The reliability will leave you in frustration as you'll find yourself riding way too much with not enough time to research what else to buy on the internet.

I should of worded that differently. I don't hate it, I would just prefer a rn. Now that I've been looking at squares the past few days it has really grown on me lol. A clean 94 or 95 with stock graphics looks better to me then the newer superjets.

it does not matter what it looks like. if you ride it hard it will look like crap even if it were brand new. ask all the guys that have bought new 8k superjets that spiderweb the paint after a hard ride in the surf.

all that matters is you keep your ski as mechanically sound as possible and you have fun each time you ride.
