Very funny tor*p*do! It's my parents boat and we are on a quiet lake so having the fuzz come down on us isn't an issue. We always keep things safe so I'll try getting a bit closer. My brother and our friends are huge wakeboarders so they know how to set a perfect wake. I have been just plowing through them now what I think of it. Also, I've been going way to fast. I would usually cut back and forth and hitting the wake, but now I'll sneak a bit ahead of the boat and turn back. Thanks guys! All great advice!

Remember to let off the throttle (or hop into the trough) so your pump drops into the trough right before you nail it.

Find a spot where boats are just leaving a no wake zone and catch them as they plane off. Best wakes are made while the boat is plowing water. Also learn how to setup hop a few feet before and brap into it.

I can't wait to try this behind the malibu this summer, just added more ballast for surfing. I've noticed about 10ft behind the boat is the sweet spot with my new wake

Im guessing im closer to your age, weight, and at that time, ability :scratchchin:, and The best way i learned was to hit rollers 100 feet back or so, where its safe from cops, boarders, etc. and before you guys hassle me, more or less than an 100 ft im just ball parking, it takes common sense. but learn to hit other boat rollers far back and dive into the backside of the first then pulling the second like scrubbing down on to the landing of a double on a moto track going into a bigger triple that you really have to power up to clear, hit them at the same angle as the boat so when you progress to bigger wakes its the same setup but bigger, just do that when ur riding with no friendly boat or with ur friends and then when you have your familys boat you can hit your familys wake close up but the same setup and execution as you practiced. it helped me more than i can explan when i got the chance to hit close family wakes and it makes knowing exactly how to approach wakes easier
:brap:

Oh I know there big, but the problem with em is they are just huge rollers, there's no lip to em. Still can launch, but you don't get the lip to throw you strait up. Still fun tho.

Im careful these days with big rollers created by displacement hulls - tend to find yourself very high but flattening out midair = pancake flat landing/tough on the ankles!

the best/easiest wake to hit is the very 1st wave off the boat...

to hit the 1st wave you pretty much come head on to the boat. Nice part about hitting that wake is itll give you the most POP and the approach is much easier....to hit the other waves behind boat you have to play with your angle n speed more

At least half the battle is having the right ski too. I've got a 650sx with a 750 and mods and it still is a heavy son of a gun. There are many options out there, most will say get a square nose sj. Kawasakis can be ok with work. The 750s in general are more nimble and jump better. And if you get a 750sx you can really optimize that cylinder for low end.

So for wakes, if that's all you're going to be doing, then a modded 750sx or 550/750 would be a good next step. If you wish to go with a SJ or FX1 that would be an even better option. With any of those skis you wont be ski limited with what you want to do.. which is where you are at now. Just something to think about.

i always headed straight towards the wake 45* off the boat front the front. if you time it right, you can avoid the first wake, keep the pump loaded, and hit the second which is always the largest one. off a wakeboard boat ive flown 30+ feet on my couch 650, havent tried it much on the SJ yet. im also usually atleast 50-75 feet off the back of the boat. i love the huge rollers, just be sure to yank the bars mid flight to get the tail to drop so it doesnt pancake.

theres something about getting big air on a 24 year old ski thats too much fun.

Since this is your boat and friends driving, get them to do FAT S-curves, and you'll wind up with GIANT setup wakes. I loved doing that with my Bayliner, those waves closing together were the BEST for getting huge air, and no worries about the PO-PO messing with you for being too close to the boat.

I agree with everyone else, if you have a wakeboard boat hit the first one 5-10 feet behind the platform, let off the gas when you drop down, then gas it as soon as the nose starts climbing the wake. This is how I do it, and have a blast launching it.

Just remember, never let go it will be bad for both you and the ski. I've seem a 650sx literally crack in half from jumping boat wakesn
