This is directly to Wax,I have the certifications and the experience to back up anything I say here ,I have been working in the powersports industry professionally since 1981 and on Jet skis since 1985,and that is all I have to say about that.

Wax, Charlie, don't make this out to something it is not. It is simply a video that proves the carbs won't load up.

did i make it something that its not? high idle and lean bottom end will keep carbs from loading up an engine.

thats what it IS.

George Grabowski (very respected engine builder/builder trainer) always told me the best torque was created when you're slightly rich because when you crack the throttle open, there is a little extra fuel there to work with the extra air immediately instead of having to wait for the fuel circuit to react to the new lower pressure.

I believe him. That doesn't mean anything for idling though.

Man that names a blast from the past! I remember spending the week in Havasu back in '93 when I was racing with the Portale's and what a crazy guy George was. Seemed like he new everything about two strokes and setups back then.

Loading up? Are you kidding, twostrokes hesitate from being too lean not too rich. What has been demonstrated is certainly nothing special, just having the idle screw rich enough for a cold engine. If the idle mixture was peaked out on a hot engine it would tend to stumble when cold.

Gill, I have some idle time and here by challenge you to an Idle off ....... any time any where ...... name the ramp PAL . BOY ! when i get done idling you you'll know you have been idled . I'll even give you an idling head start just to keep it fair since I'm running Black jack 48s .

Who wins the idle off contest ? the one that idles the longest or the one who runs out gas first?

Anytime you have to resort to a rich idle to get better response tells you your carb lacks the ability to pull the fuel as readily as they should. I question the temperature of the case due to air fuel mixture being the sole reason for a better hit.
If they tuned tuned the carbs that would more than likely mean they tried a richer setting before settling down to where it is now. The air fuel mixture has to be perfect in the crankcase for it to not load up. If it still responds then thats the carbs working like they should. If it still runs as crisp and responsive after repeated on and off throttle applications and specially after decelerating from a high speed then yes they are tuned perfect. I see he has 2.0 with 115 gram spring, thats a lot of pop pressure but they seem to still pull the fuel and not hesitate. That should at least say something.
I have worked with different brand of carbs and the difference is not huge between the brands. What is different is how perfect you can get them. A carb that requires bigger and bigger low jets and ultimately ends up with a low pop pressure to fix a hesitation will normally load up in a SuperJet. I did a Blaster with 44 Black jacks I could go full speed and let off the gas and coast then stab the throttle wide open and it was crisp and clean. Fine tuning the low speed mixture was the ticket. The idle was 1550 on the tiny tach.

wow post a video and everyone becomes an expert. im a master tuner, those carbs arent tuned right, mine could do that bla bla. fact is, his boat runs good, hes happy. so whats the debate? he was just showin that his boat will idle for a long time and then hit right away. lots of setup wont do that...must be case temp or somthing eh.. whatever. GIL, nice set-up. id be happy too.
