BLASTER SURF MODS with 701ind

With the Surf Plugs, I believe its essential to keep your bilge area as dry as possible. With the ski launching off waves, doing lots of tricks ,flips and rolls, you have a greater chance of sucking water into your carbs with water laying around. The Surf Plugs keeps your bilge dry. 701 has taken a proven method of draining a hull, and brought this Surf Plug into modern times. Its Larger drain hole is also protected against foreign objects like old zipties being caught in the valve area with the SS micro filter mesh. The construction of the Plug is also from a non corrosive Poly Urethane . These plugs are a direct replacement for your OEM bung. Simply unscrew your old bungs, swap the rubber gasket over, and screw in place the most advance Blaster drain plug on the market. These Surf Plugs have been engineered to be no longer than the bung you are replacing. As always, 701 will bring the bling factor to its products offering these in 6 colours same as the Wedge.
You can now say once you have installed the Transom Plate, Surf Wedge, and colour matched your Surf Plugs, that the rear end of your Blaster is SURF ready. Next I will talk about the Hood and how to Mod this up to be a true Surf Blaster.

Subscribed to this thread. I am planning on running this rear setup on my Blaster some point soon. 701Dave, do you have any pics of White ski with Carbon wrapped plate red wedge and red surf plugs? I am trying to figure out if I would like that or do a polished plate with Black wedge and black plugs.

Thanks,
Kurtis

I don't believe I have ever had a all white ski in. Here is a pic of a red ski .it still had the factory white hull. I know for sure that that colour combo on any ski would look sic.

I do like that look! My B1 is all white with Black mats. I always run a sued and dark gray seat with Red stitching, so I think that will work very well. As soon as I can get the B1 up and running and get the money up for the order, I will send you an email.

Thanks,
Kurtis

IN THE HOOD.
I want to go over the Surf Mods I recommend for the hood area. When it comes to working under the hood, the factory catch , apart from being awkward, it does not allow the hood to open enough. This is easily solved by fitting a pair of gas struts. The 701Dual Hood kit comes with everything you need to get rid of a old school latch and bring your Blaster into the modern times. Now not only does making opening your cowl a breeze, from either side of the ski, it gives you way more operating room to work on your motor. In the closed position, with the gas struts under tension, this goes a long way to making your hood more stabile. The Dual strut kit now comes with a couple of cover plates to go over where you remove the existing old school bracket.
For surf riding, you will be applying a lot more forces on the hood . You are transferring a lot of pressure from your wider bars, down through a taller steering. You need to lock this hood down to limit movement. Its never nice when you rock on the bars and see the hood rocking with you. The main source of this sloppy hood is the factory hinge. As the skis have a lot of years under them now, its the small things that if replaced make a huge difference. 701 sells a H-D stainless steel ball bearing hinge that comes with all new mounting hardware.
The 3rd essential item I recommend is to run a good seal. The seal, not only for keeping out the water, but it makes for a strong hood. The OEM seal in my mind has always had issues. It doesn't have a memory, so when the hood was closed and a part of the seal gets trapped, it will stay that way from then on. The 701 Seal is a basic channel that replaces the OEM one but is made wider to accommodate reinforced hoods. The kit comes complete with the glue and a applicator .
Members on this forum that have taken these steps in preparing there Blaster for freeride, will im sure agree with what im talking about. All these Surf Mods are available through the 701Industries online shop. You are also welcome to email me direct at dave@701industries.com if you want to find out about anything. Cheers

At the moment there is a package deal where you can buy all the products but its better in my mind to chip away at them so you get to understand and notice the difference as you go. The package as it is at present is about $2500. I sell a lot of these in Australia but the average cost of a Blaster with a few engine mods is around $5k. When I see on the X Blasters for sale at $1200 , the kit a lot harder. I believe that at the way things are going in Aus, a good condition Blaster fitted out with 701 Surf Mods will be selling for around $7 to $8 k next year. I can also see a few containers full of blasters coming out of the States bound for a few different countries. With A/M Blaster style hulls due out this year, those cheap Blasters will be snapped up for donors for sure. So if you got a spare B1 laying around ,keep it, the price will go up. If you have spare cash, buy a second B1. that's what I predict. WHOA
