BOB Review

Ross, after reading your review, I think you need to ride Tems' (superfreaks') newer rocker hull. I think he is really on the right track w/ that thing. The hull he is running is too light for the surf (50lbs) IMO but w/ about 30lbs I think it has the ability to be a really good option for the surf.

great review!!!

Thanks Nick, and I would love to ride that hull.

And as to the rest of the comments, like I said the boat does what it was designed to do and it does it well. And there is no benefit to my giving any kind of a negative review on this boat. Some time in the very near future, this boat will be for sale. It is now and will be setup as a surf boat when we sell it. So it does me personally no good to say there are issues with how this boat works in the surf.

My goal with this hull was to be able to have a boat that was capable of double backflipping and handled well enough for me to compete on. As it sits now, it just does not handle well enough for me to compete with. But I know the hull/boat is capable of a double and hopefully I will be able to accomplish that goal with this hull.

I am going to keep working with the hull and will probably post my results and experiences if anyone is interested.

Just so anyone reading this knows...I'm not a freestyle guy and have never ridden a full-on freestyle boat that worked well for me in the surf...there are just different requirements. I don't have any desire to do a flat water flip or freestyle in general. So I am not the target customer for this hull. The things I need a ski to do are different than what 99% of the rest of the standup community needs.

There are better odds of they sky falling that what you are asking Terry to do!

Ok I will get back on topic although that was not much of a deviation. In other threads regarding the 300SX DK stated it was an ill handling POS and that their magic hull mods made it ridable again. Now I and several others who have built these ski have found this to be totally false and without merit, that nonwithstanding it now appears that it is an ill handling ski with the mods The Ski Clinic has done to it instead of without. Several people have ridden my ski due to the placement and displacement of the engine it is not a backflipper but it is a very well balanced and easily ridable machine just what it was built for, now I can go back and pull up some of these posts where various claims about this hull were made or you can search for yourselves, I will guarantee you they are there.

Start your own thread. That has nothing to do with Ross's review of the BOB for surf riding.

Hey Ross, im kevin rickon and jon hall's friend Peter. I met you a few times last year but I just read your review on the BOB and I was wondering if the next time you take it out to Oceanside I could possibly try it out. Im looking to sell my 06SJ hull and whatnot and pick up somthing new. If you know anybody selling a Rickter FS1 let me know too. Thanks man

I think it was LS Engineering who used a 300sx hull in the pro mod class back in the mid to late 80's.

I just rode deftons56 bob hull for about 10 minutes tonight.........IF I LIVED WHERE HE DOES ON THE LAKE I WOULD HAVE TO GET ONE HANDS DOWN!! It was a bit difficult getting use to coming off a standard RN hull, but i will say for flipping and rolling it would be the $hit. His has great power with a stroked big bore TL, avgas etc, between learning the power and the hull handling (or lack of lol) it would probably take me about a day to really get comfortable on it. I had a bit of trouble pulling the trim lever, but the times I was able it instantly went vertical even with part throttle. My impression overall is that I need more time on it but a super fun ski.

Just as all the people rocking Bobs have theirs, I have been rocking a 300SX longer than anyone here, before it was popular or the newest fad, before The Ski Clinic came up with BOB, it doesn't really matter because anyone that has plopped that kind of money down has to say its the greatest thing since sliced bread or risk looking like a total retard here. My posts here are geared more towards certain claims that were made about the product in question, if you can't back it up don't spit it out, peace out !

Haha your a joke....if you can't back it up don't spit it out?!?!?! I actually have a BOB and have riden one....

Crab along with many other people who tried the demo did not spend money on a BOB but have said good things about them. Your logic is severely flawed.

Where or when did we ever say that the BOB is the greatest thing since slice bread?? Where or when did we even claim that it is the greatest hull ever?? I don't recall saying that it's the greatest thing ever. It's definitely my favorite aftermarket hull, but I've never called it the greatest. I hoping your having fun trolling the BOB threads, cause it's really getting annoying for everyone else.

Hey Peter...surf is looking pretty poor tomorrow, but I could probably bring both boats up on Sunday morning if you want to give it a shot.

And as to the other conversation going on...for what it is worth I think the BOB is a great flat water freestyle hull especially when you consider the price. That is what it is designed for and it is good for that. My review was focused on other things that don't really have anything at all to do with flat water performance. But even at my mediocre level, it is a fun boat for me to try flat water tricks on...and is certainly better than a stock hull. I don't think there is a better value out there for a flat water hull. There never will be a boat that is great at everything...it is all give and take.

Hey Ross, could you please give your impression on the difference in riding characteristics between a standard setup BOB and yours with the engine moved forward?
