got ski back yesterday. all repairs covered under warrantee. they cleaned and rebuilt carbs and replaced all gaskets in the intake. looks like they pulled the motor.
get ski home. started it up and it was smoking badly. figured it was the 25:1. NOPE...choke was stuck on! the mechanic jammed my carbs together and didn't get the chokes synced and it would bind up when closed. had to pull it all apart yesterday and fix it. honestly I don't even know how it could have happened.

get it to lake yesterday. starts right up but has a wicked flat spot at just about planning speed. thought it was plugs but no. if I feather the throttle I can work past it but it returns when slowing down. the more I rode it the better it got. its almost non existant now. I'm hoping there was some crud left in the low speed circuit. after seeing the outside of the carb work I cant imagine the inside was any better!

HOLY CHIT this thing rides flat! Its going to take some getting used to. and.....it has a bit more power then the 6m6, LOL. cant wait to get it broken in and get some 40:1 in it and go WOT!

A detailed hard copy letter describing disappointment and purchase regret (more than anger) with quality photos needs to go to Yamaha. CC the regional rep, the plant forman in Newnan, GA. + 2-3 others preferably in different locations. Listing the CCs is whats important. Knowing 'they' are not the only one looking at the issue and EVERYONE knows you were CCd creates an urgency to not be the one doing nothing about it. I know this seems like nothing, however, printed copies can be brought to a meeting and passed around. In addition some curmudgeons don't DO email and the assistant(s) print a few thing out for them. Prints are like a priority raiser. Photos each need to have a one (2 max) sentence summary eg "Dealer says this is a NEW Yamaha ski" the Dealer name and your contact info need to be on every print. Labels are good choice here. Using the brand name is uber important in the labels.

Finding the regional Rep is one of the most important things you can do. This can affect the dealers actual costs next year.

This short lesson in corporate counterintelligence and human profiling brought to you by the color blue and the word brap.

Additionally I couldn't in good conscience suggest the next time you see a register for a free vacation/car/boat you sign up the business and use the mechanics name. If you have direct lines its even better. Nor could I say you can sign them up for free Vegas sports pics. The phone will NEVER stop ringing. I especially would not recommend buying a multi year subscription for the owner to a VERY alternative lifestyle magazine and have it delivered to the shop. Of course I can neither confirm nor deny if these tactics are very satisfying.

we launch right in Thompsonville on the ct river just above the enfield/suffield bridge. also ride congamond lakes in southwick mass. the best place to ride is Hatfield mass on the ct river. its a 25 minute ride north on 91 from springfield mass.

2 tanks of 25:1 through it so far. next tank is 40:1 with some klotz benol! love that stuff! anyway, ski is running well. still has a tiny bog right off throttle. carbs are not adjustable right? season is winding down here so last ride i'll fill up with a full tank of AV gas and run through then clean the carbs again. unless there is another option. ski starts right up and idles well. just a tiny bog just off idle.

2 tanks at 25:1 is overkill. One tank is enough. Run the ski with regular gas and oil. One reason it may be running right is the 25:1 mixture. go run it with the correct mixture before you start trying to fix a problem that may not be there. With an oil mixture that rich it wil effect your jetting.

Avgas for a 100% stock boat? Why?
avgas dont gel up like regular gas. its good to put in anything thats not gonna be run for a while. i put either avgas or a little 110 in all my lawnmowers weedeaters, leaf blowers every winter and never have carb troubles on anything. sides avgas isnt much more than premium fuel around here. avgas will just turn to a fine dust at worst and will burn right through next season of use

Sxipro beat me to it. It cost a little more but there is no ethonol in it. If the carbs are clean when you put it away they will be clean in the spring! Plus it smells great!

so I finally sack up and buy a brand new 2014 super jet. picked it up from the dealer yesterday. when I get home I wanted to see how she sounded. soon as I hit the start button it revs out to about half throttle and wont shut off!! I yank the hood off(scratched now) and pull the plug wires. still running! then I remember to go WOT to kill a runaway. shut right off. WTF!! figured it was just a little air in the lines so I fill it up with 25:1 and head up to the lake for the long weekend. get it in the water and guess what.... wont freakin run! only runs on full choke and that's barely! call dealer and tell them what happened and the mechanic procedes to tell me that I should NEVER start it out of the water with no load on it and I more then likely blew it up! ya ok buddy. so how did you do the prep? how am I supposed to clear the water out after a ride? this is what I'm going to have to deal with!

well, I'm home now. ski has good compression. ran a dedicated line from tank to carb and still wants to run away out of the water(to rule out fuel valve). I'm headed to the dealer now to drop this off. cant wait to see what the fools over there try to pin on me!

wish me luck.......
You are running lean.. if it only starts with the choke then your low speed screw is clogged. take back to the dealer for a carb clean and tell them to test before delivery.

Though no warranty on 14s correct?
nope and Yamaha has some of the worst customer service around. Buying my 2013 was a HUGE mistake and I refuse to ever purchase one of their products again, simply because although 99% of their products are quality, they refuse to make things right for the 1% that gets a defective product. Mistakes happen. Companies just need to make it right. Yamaha will give you the bird and tell you they aren't responsible for any product that is sold without a warrantee.

That's interesting to me, I had a Jetco boat back in the early 90's that I ran on Av-gas.. Smells so good

Is there any harm in running it in a ski that isn't high compression?
Any issue with mixing Av-gas with regular 91 octane pump gas (I live in Kaliforniastan)

I wonder what the ratio would be for 91 and Av-gas to get to 93-95ish?

i got a 14 few months back it ripped from day one for stock ski almost as fast as my sx limited ski ,motor is on way back from jetworks i hope the porting makes it wake up even more!

You'd gain nothing running av gas or high octane in something not designed for it. Might actually hurt performance. High octane fuel burns slow, can be harder to ignite and will only cost you more money. Regular gas WITHOUT ethanol blend is the best you can do. I run a mix of 110 through all my toys before any lengthy storage because it does store better than regular pump gas

I think the later model SJs are hit or miss. I had great luck with a 2013 which ran really good and was solid. A 2014 not so much. Finish not the same. Same riding and lots more cracks. Remember seeing someone on here with the same issue on a 2013 though.

so talking with the service manager yesterday they ordered carb rebuild kits and all new intake gaskets. we also discussed why water came out the exhaust when I first started it. he claims they did not hook it to water....which means the dealer that had it previously must have used the ski the pawned it off as new.(AWESOME) maybe the low speed circuit IS clogged up from old fuel. I cant get a straight answer if the ski was crated or not when it was delivered. some real shady chit is going on. Anyways, hope to get ski back before the weekend. temps here in the northeast are 10-15 degrees above average!

I know this is old but just an FYI as I used to uncrate and "build" these in high school/college (late 90's). Superjets come 99% assembled. Basically unwrap, fill/charge battery, fill with gas/oil and go. The couches generally involve a little more but not standups.

On to the setup. Yamaha provides a setup form/checklist that is supposed to accompany all equipment. This checklist was generally 2 part and a copy would go with the sale to the new owner. On that checklist for watercraft you are required to start the ski (water will come out of it when you start it for the first time) but there are several things you have to check while running. 1. Stop switch 2. Lanyard 3. Rev limiter. There maybe be more but that is all I can remember from an SJ. And this was done without water hooked up to the ski.

In this case it sounds as if the dealer or mechanic is incompetent or lazy.
