SXR Building the best SX-R race engine! Why not DASA?

Hi guys

Why are people not building Dasa engines in the sx-r ?

Im thinking it must be fast as hell with low weight compared to a 1100 & 1200 3 cyl?

If you where building a SX-R for track racing what engine would it be?

SX-R stock with mods? B-pipe and head: 100HP??
951 DI seadoo? 135HP
DASA 140-160HP
1200 CC 3 Cyl 135Hp
1100 CC 3cyl 120HP

And why?

1100 /1200 is making that power std. When you work them up they will a lot more and still be reliable. Plus the torque of the big engine makes them nicer to ride

Its money. For Racing where the extra 35 pounds isnt a big deal you cant beat an 1100.

SX-R stock with mods? B-pipe and head: 100HP?? ------ Spend $3000 in pipe, carbs and head

951 DI seadoo? 135HP ------------- $3000 easy and you have glass work, and the carbs face down sucking water up.
DASA 140-160HP ------------- Still need carbs and pipe to support it. But they make great power and are light
1200 CC 3 Cyl 135Hp ------- donar ski $3000,,,, and Ultra 150 motors have a huge pipe to deal with in the smaller hulls
1100 CC 3cyl 120HP--------- Donar ski is $500-$1000 and you can make great power on pump gas and anyone can do the build in a weekend. The Parts and tunning specs are all very public.

I don't think the DASA Kawis are proven...yet. I haven't heard of a GOOD RUNNING, RELIABLE one yet, anywhere with significant gains over a stock motor.
They have the Yamaha motors down, but I think the Kawi ones are still new and in testing stages.

Please someone feel free to prove me wrong. I might even buy one...

I love the Yami Dasa 1000 and 1100...sick sick sick power. Would love to see a reliable good running Kawi version.

Yep they work. And better than yami IMO. But everyone just thinks yami because they have Superjets.

Kawis cases are 100x better, and a stock Kawi crank is a stroker yami

Yes they scream, ive run pfp, sxr wetpipe, dry pipes and c4's. as well as 140, 145, and 155 mags. The bigger pump was the way to go. A properly tuned/setup kawi dasa will hang with any yami dasa.

DASA P/V with 84mm pistons. Tore down for rings and maintenance. I don't see any issues with crank life since it is a rec motor. I plan on lowering compression to 180 though. A ported DASA Kawi runs circles around a regular Kawi motor. Also it feels just as strong as my old Yami DASA 8mm 885 that was running T/L. The Kawi rips IMO and I plan on using it for next build.

I've got one..

Its a Dasa 900 sxr with a lot of other stuff. It is very very close to a coffman piped 1100 sxr. I usually get the hole shot. But my buddy is still tuning the 1100, I race against. Top end is very close, but it really is rider at that point. (low to mid 60s) The Dasa sxr cylinders do have cooling issues. Cooling Mods need to be done if racing this engine. For freestyle or rec no problem. I found better performance with less timing and less compression. It hits way to hard in the mid with high compression. Almost un-ridable midrange snap.

PS I do realize the head is on backwards, the engine is just mocked up in the photo.

plus the added weight of a triple keeps the boat better planted under racing condition.
the drawback to dasa kawi base is the crankshaft.unlike yamis, the kawi uses much smaller bearings and do not last nearly as long, the cases suffer more flexing as crank whips around more and the bore spacing is narrower limiting room for transfer area.

It's a cool idea but a fully built sxr triple will shred any Kawi based twin... And before anyone brings up a kawidoo - a race built 951 is a world away from a Kawi 800 block with a billet cylinder on it. The triple makes power over a huge spread of rpm and will live a respectably long life at that tune.

Where did you go with compression? Im at 220 cranking and want to change because it hits crazy hard like you mention. Also gonna run a Advent cdi with aggressive curves that run 36 degrees of advance. I was thinking 180 cranking

220 PSI cranking and 36 deg is a HOTT. High octane fuel needed for sure. What pipe? It will hit very very hard with that setup and 110. Not sure it will last though..

I backed down to 160 cranking (gauge reads a little low) and 28-30 deg max between 4-5k rpm. (H82LUZ Performance smooth curves). Running 91 Octane with dry pipe and 48 Novi carbs.. Riding in 65-70 air temp, 50-60 deg water temp.

Don't buy an Advent. PIA! And multiple failures in my buddies 1100 made me dump mine. I can share curves via email if you get the Speed Magic unit from Blowsion or Macc. It is a more user friendly ignition by far. Takes 2 minutes to change curves via laptop USB connection. Good BYE Advent problems... Thanks Speed Magic and Blowsion.
