Other California ski registration went up 80%!

I was told by DMV that if your only using your vessel in the ocean you don't have to buy the Mussel sticker. It's a separate sticker to put on your boat

Wow, Nevada was ahead of the game on this one. Here we pay $20 a year for registration (anything under 13') and we also have to buy an A.I.S. (aquatic invasive species) sticker for your vessel. It's an additional $5 for non motorized vessels (paddle boats, canoes ect.) and $10 for motorized vessels. But if you read the fine print it says the sticker is only required if you are operating in Nevada waters. I just tell them that I only ride my skis in Arizona or in the ocean that way I don't have to pay the extra $10.
The thing that really gets me is that this A.I.S sticker is also required for all out of state vessels that use Nevada waters, so if you wanted to go boating in Nevada for a weekend you have to pay $10 for a non motorized vessel and $20 for a motorized one. You also have to get these from an office that is only open 9AM-5PM, Monday thru Friday. So if you were to come in over the weekend you are essentially open to get a $350 ticket for not having that dumb sticker.
All they are doing with this extra money is building decontamination stations for boats, but all of the stations are closed because nobody is there to man them. It's totally pointless. If the prices keep going up I'll start registering my stuff in AZ.
Here is a link to all of the nonsense that I am talking about.

Here in Maine the state includes the lake and river protection fee in our $45 registration. If one comes to ME they can use their home state registration, but their expected to purchase the sticker for $20 and it can be purchases online. I don't really think the $45 it costs me per year is a big deal. Pretty cheap considering I ride almost every day.

If you read your registration it did not go up. Has always been $20 for 2 years. Now it is $36 IF you do not check that you use it in marine waters. If you check that box it is the same $20 it has always been. I'm sure a bunch of people will not read their registration and just pay the $36.

I have 2 skis and cost me $20 each for 2 years each, just like it has been for the past 10 years. Read the fine print or be a sucker who just pays $36.

let me get this straight.....you people are bitching because your multi-thousand dollar watercraft now costs $36 more per year to legally operate (if you didn't read fine print and didn't check the marine water thing)?

The one thing that was super cheap here in California was vessel registration. So if you owned eight skis, no big deal. A few years ago it was only ten dollars, then they doubled it. If the state can find a way to suck more money out of you they will. Its nice that you don't have to buy this separate sticker if you're only going to ride in the ocean. 300 dollars a year is crazy!

O.K. I kind of get it. You don't wanna pay "the man". I hear ya. Get over it. We ride toys worth more than some people's homes. If you're like me, (in N.Y.) I have toys for all seasons. They cost money. To be legal, it costs money. I have to buy multiple toys, for friends to ride, or I ride alone. Get over it. That B.S. saying, YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY, is true. The only way around it is to get rid of the politicians. They tax the heck out of us, WHY???? Because we let them. For the most part, it goes into their pockets. If we all stopped whining and did something, it MIGHT not be this way.

Some of us stupid average joes should run for office. Keep your day job, for money, and get elected to shove all these phony azz clowns out on the street.

It's called "public service" ( do you morons get it????? Public SERVICE) for a reason. We let them get away with it!!!!!!!

Stop whining and take some time and DO something

A few years ago it was $10!? Yeah, and you paid yearly. Now it is $20 and you pay every 2 years. The cost has not gone up in 15 years! Still $10 year.

Trailer registration in CA actually went down about 4 years ago with the introduction on PTI (permanent trailer identification). I pay less now to have 2 skis on a trailer than I paid 5 years ago.

It's the 16$ on top of all the other b/s tax that we pay here in Cali...

How's TX treating you so far? How's it compare to CA?

Texas is a pure fantasy land for me. Compared to California? Well... A lot more land, a lot less people occupying it... A lot more trucks, burning much less expensive gas... A lot more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens and a lot less in the hands of criminals... CA you'll be paying 7.50% sales tax on top of an 8% state income tax, TX you'll be paying 6.25% sales tax on top of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING... I'll see your Arnold Schwarzenegger and raise you Chuck Norris and Clint Eastwood... Both are warm enough for me to sweat my balls off 12 months out of the year at the southern end of the state and cold enough to freeze them off in the winter on the northern end... We don't have the beaches, the surfing or the women that CA does but the Gulf water is piss-warm year round and Nancy Pelosi doesn't live here. So to answer your question, Texas is treating me like I only wish the rest of America could be treated!
