I think that these threads are hilarious...

you see LPW getting knocked on here when people wait 5 months for motors... NOPE.

do you see the same when people wait 6 for team scream...

Or how bout when those motors blow up ..

NOPE not published...

Ya... all of the builders have good and bads... I just think its funny so many people beat companies up...

Reason 1,023,309,403,040,249,820,948.0 I'm sick of it all.
that was taken off my neg feedback forum of the new 24-7

I am done riding..

Again? Really Pete, I have nothing to say here one way or another about anyone's motors, but you really need to be careful not to lose credibility if you're trying to make a point. Perhaps you have something important to say that people need to learn - I don't know. What I do know is that your childish antics diminish anything that you have to say, which is a shame since you have a lot of insight and experience to offer. How many more times are we going to have to witness your histrionics, and watch you flounce off vowing never to ride again? It's just so tiresome....

This is my experience with Jr Magoos/LPW...

Before I get into this I want to say that NOT ONE WORD OF THIS POST would have made it to your eyes if MILF had not stated that Pete had nothing to back up his claim. That said, here goes.

Met Paul at Lone Star Freeride in March 2005 when one of my best friends received his engine from Jr Magoos. After talking with my friend and Paul I gave him $2000.00 for big bore DASA cylinder and pistons. At this time I also gave him a set of "t" cases to epoxy and port. A couple of weeks later I called Protec and bought 2 billet 6mm stroker cranks. I sent one to Paul and asked if he would clearance the cases and assemble the motor. I also sent him an ADA shell Factory Pipe manifold and "B" head pipe asking if he would get the correct domes for the new engine and clearance the pipe and manifold for powervalves. His reply to all was "sure." I asked him when he thought it would be finished to which he replied a month or two.

My plan after purchasing the two cranks was to build 2 identicle engines. At first he stated that he was having difficulty getting cylinders from Dan due to the sheer demand and short supply. OK. After he finally got the cylinder it took a while to get it ported and assembled. I spoke with Paul and asked if he wanted the other crank I had purchased in exchange for credit on my final bill. He said yes and I sent it with a friend to Lanier to hand over to him. I paid $678 something shipped for the crank. We agreed on this number to be credited toward my total. More time passes, we are now in late June. Call Paul and check how things are coming. He stated that the powervalve passages were not machined to the correct size and he would have to redo that himself. Another 2 weeks go by and check back with him. He stated he had the engine assembled and was running it on the dyno and it was making good horsepower over 150, but then began to abruptly fall off. He disassembled the engine to find that the cylinders were leaking water into the ports from between the casting and the sleeves. Stated that he had to take the sleeves out and "re-glue" them into the casting. This is where I began to have concerns about the build (never heard of sleeves being glued in, just cooled and casting heated then set into place or pressed and left to cool slowly.) Paul stated that he had a few things left to get it the way he wanted it but that it would ship out Monday. Monday a week later came and no engine. After talking to Paul same thing, "It will ship on Monday". This happened exactly the same for a few times. Finally I just quit calling to check being fed up with empty promises and lies.

Middle of September rolls around. Get a call from Paul stating that the engine had shipped. A few days later I finally get my engine. I take it out of the plastic bag it was wrapped in to find a blob of grease covered with metal shavings in one of the intake tracts. Next I do a mock mounting of the head pipe (the exhaust manifold was mounted to the cylinder upon arrival.) The head pipe, which had been cut and welded and then touched up with a die grinder to clear the rear powervalve, would not fit. The powervalve cover on the rear cylinder was holding the head pipe from sitting flush on the exhaust manifold to head pipe gasket. I called Paul expressing my displeasure. He stated that he wasn't sure how the grease got into the engine and that the pipe had to fit tight to help hold the rear powervalve cover in place. Not once in our conversation did Paul offer to "fix" the problems. I went from very excited to very disappointed.

I cleaned the crankcase out and took my die grinder to the under side of the head pipe and in about 30-40 minutes had it ready to install. Took it home that evening (had it delivered to the Yamaha dealership where I work as a technician) and began installing the other components. When I tried to bolt up the pickup plate the bolts would only go in afew turns. The cases I supplied Paul had been sitting around quite a while. I didn't know it at the time but evidently the stator mounting holes were full of dirt. No big deal just clean it out with some carb spray and a tap. Then I thought about it. How could he have "dyno-ed" this engine without bolting up a stator? This made me curious. I pulled the head off and found NO evidence that this engine had ever been running. There was absolutely 0 carbon on the domes nor any on the crown of the pistons. Pauls response to this was that he didn't dyno it after he fixed the water problem and that when he dynos an engine he uses the 760 or Kawasaki 750/800 style ignition there for he doesn't use those bolt holes. Here's where another thing that doesn't add up comes in to play. The cases I supplied him had been rewelded where a customer had tried to pry his flywheel off and broke a 1 1/2" portion of the lower case at the 6 o'clock position. When Simms racing repaired the cases they got the alignment of the bolt hole slightly off. Either Paul never bolted the cover mounted stator or it is possible he just didn't use that hole.

A few days later I had the engine installed complete with NEW 48mm Full Spectrum carbureters, manifold, R131a Rad valves and Mikuni dual line fuel pump Prok flame arrestors and fuel filters along with NEW MSD pro digital multi channel total loss ignition system. I take it to the lake and it runs good...for about an hour or so. The engine began to bog down low and on the trailer it would run away. It had an air leak between the cylinder and the cases behind the magneto where the "pry" relief is. Took the ski home, called Paul and bitched some more. Again he did not offer to "fix" the issue. I disassembled the engine to find a stock gasket that was trimmed to accept the big bore cylinders, but not trimmed to match the oversized and additional transfer ports of the DASA cylinder. The leak was caused by the one of the transfer port openings on the cylinder to case mating surface extended over into the hollow portion of the upper case. Yes, the same cases that were supposed to be epoxied...but weren't. After further disassembly it became apparent that the engine cases were not ported at all. The cases had been clearanced to accept the additional 6mm of stroke. It was not machined, looked as though this "professional" engine builder had done it with a die grinder.

I spend the next few days filling the cases with epoxy and decking the high spots created by the epoxy. I also did a minimum amount of porting to the area of the top case half to make a smooth transition from cases to cylinder assembly. When I finished and reassembled the engine and lake tested I couldn't believe the difference. This thing will rip your arms off from the instant you touch the throttle.

I received the engine before I ever got a bill. After a few calls to Paul asking for a bill I quit calling. One year later in Crystal Beach at the same Lone Star Freeride where I first contacted him about the build we talked again about a bill. He said he would have to get back to the shop and sit down and work one up. A few weeks later a bill arrives showing the $2678.something credit and owing an additional $850. When the bill arrived I called him letting him know that now we needed to discuss my bill for having to do some of the work he was supposed to have done and the work that wasn't done properly. We agreed on a price of $600.

Where I made a bad judgement in this deal was continuing to think about everything. I decided that Bull********, I will not pay him another dime. I had to redo everything and still wait one full year from our original talk to finally get a price. Screw that!

This spring I paid him the $600 after a few back and forth pms and cut ties.

I don't post here much, but know of a few people who have said the EXACT same thing as Pete, some even more. The most repeated thing I have heard was his sleeving process, which was already mentioned and makes me believe there is some truth to it. I never had any serious work done by Paul so who am I to jump on any band wagon... I like the guy so I am not out to slander his name. It sucks that it came to this.

I, myself have alway wondered about these so called freestyle builders dynoes? Some may indeed have some but I herd Paul once say he had a 150 HP engine in it, and I wondered. He had said he had like 45 degrees advance or some huhe number like that and so he could not even rev it over 5000 rpm's. My question is how in the world does he make that much HP on an engine that will only do burst to 5000 RPM's? I don't know Paul very well but I have met him before. He seemed very nice, and easy to talk with and I hold no ill will against him but, I smell alot of BS in his HP # I had a cance to ride that old orange ski of his that was beautiful. I am not a freestyle guy so I wanted to feel the grunt you guys need. After he told me the HP, I wanted to see how it stood up to one of my race Lameys. After riding it I knew it wasn't even in the same playing feild. My bet is the HP# are way lower than what is told. IMO.... Never the less I still think Paul is a good guy from the few times we have met.

I don't think I've ever felt so lousy after reading something on the freakin' internet. I haven't felt like this since Junior High School when friends got in fights daily, cliques abounded and people said things for the sole intention of hurting someone else.

I've communicated with Pete a few times, and so has my son. Great guy. Never met us, but still invites us to come stay at his place and then attend one of his free clinics, even if it is just a one on one deal. We haven't made the journey yet to NJ, but would love to. He was always enthusiastic and wanting nothing more than to teach us noobs how to ride better and pull off some tricks. Reading the posts from Pete and seeing the pics of him riding on PWCToday was a key factor in me dumping my couch in favor of a standup.

I've also spoken with Paul a few times. My motor was ported by him before I bought the ski and all the aftermarket brap-inducing mods were purchased thru what was then Jr. Magoos, and in fact the previous owner was steered toward Paul by Pete and others on this board. I've called/emailed Paul with questions(never issues, as the ski runs flawlessly)and no matter how busy he is he will patiently walk me through something I don't understand, whether it was a stupid jetting question on my Kawi, or an octane/compression question on my SJ. His enthusiasm on engine building is at the same level as Pete's enthusiasm is on riding.

It's just weird now. I've never met either of these guys in person. But I feel like two of my friends are 'breaking up'.

Well, to both of you; You've made me want to be a better rider, and to try to continually get more brap out of my ski. You are both important to this hobby/sport and to this community. Can nothing be done to resolve this? :grouphug:
