Can engine be blown and still have 175psi compression?

Props to Keefer on calling a stuck bendix. I pulled it apart and part of the bendix was shredded and stuck to the magnets on the flywheel. The bendix was stuck connected to the flywheel and would not retract. The screaming noise was the starter being forced to turn with the engine. I'm sure that was the main problem all along. Got the new parts and the ski will be running again in no time. Next time someone says there engine sounds like a wounded elephant, but has good compression, we can all tell them to check the bendix before pulling the head. Thanks to everyone who responded to my thread.

:banghead:Son Of A Mother F'n Biotch!!!!!!!!

I completely disasembled my ski, reinforced the hull and painted the engine compartment, checked the pump, checked the crank and pistons, put in all new gaskets, put a stock pipe on it and replumbed the cooling back to stock. I put brass plugs in the head to fill all the holes. New bendix, new motor mounts, rejetted the carbs.....

Put it in the water today to tune the carbs. It started fine but...

IT STILL SOUNDS LIKE A WOUNDED ELEPHANT!

I also noticed that the pump wasn't pushing any water and there was no water coming from the engine spitter.

The only thing I didn't pull and check was the midshaft. So I guess it was bad somehow. So now I get to pull the engine AGAIN!!!

Any ideas on what is wrong with the midshaft?:1zhelp:

Will someone just shoot me please?

Checked it tonight in my shop and the damn prop is turning when I crank the engine. WTF?

I feel your pain. The impeller still might spin out of the water if the splines are stripped. Remove the intake grate and try to turn the impeller.

A poorly shimmed engine can put the driveline in a bind that can cause the splines to wear prematurely. Sounds like you are in for a new drive shaft & midshaft. Check the midshaft housing and pump bearings and seals while you are at it.

Has anyone ever heard bad midshaft bearings make a loud squeeling noise when the engine runs?

Oh yeah for sure. I was on a friends ski when his splines let loose in head high surf in Daytona and it was definitely a squeeling sound.

Sounds to me like that's your problem. You've got to understand that if you don't have enough water flowing through the pump you will not be able to sufficiently cool the engine. That might explain why your pissers aren't pissing that well.

another thing too if you seen exhaust present in the engine bay look at all your exhaust clamps and gaskets because that will loose sufficent amount of power ride it with out the hood and look where your screaming noise is coming from and look where the exhaust smoke is coming from
