Super Jet can you flip reeds???

Because not everyone who reads what you write knows what they are doing. Anyone can do a top end. It's simple. Not everyone is an expert like you and will/can take the time to figure out why they're doing it in the first place. Build your motors your way, but what you have to remember is that not everyone that reads how you do it knows what you know. Maybe the OP is a rookie and needs all the help he can get to keep his motor running. Dry assembly, in my opinion, is not going to help him.

Why would you be starting a new motor with an air leak, or a setup that could in any way be lean enough to make a fresh motor ping?

Was not directed to the op. he asked if reads can be flipped. Yes they can been answered already. And is not his problem. He lost compression after a ride on a new top end I answered with my insight to his possible problem. All other post was me trying to back my posts to all the naysayers. Like I've said multiple times do it how you like. This is the way I have done most of my motors and have always had great success.

theres nothing backing my ways... except i learned from an excellent engine builder. thats what he does. when i worked in the dealer ship and rebuilt motors (mostly 4 stroke) i never had any issues. 2 or 4 stroke. except one guys R1, but that was his fault and yamaha stopped paying to have his motor rebuilt after 4 rebuilds because he was an idiot. you, may NEVER have any issues, but i feel its incorrect. another reason as stated before by the buzzard i think, if you build engines as i did in a dealership you may be waiting on parts for 2 weeks after engine assembly and it will be surface rusted by then.

like I've said multiple times everyone does it different do what works for you. And again two stroke vs four stoke is a bad comparison completely different.

wasnt really comparing them. just said i've built both. and oil the cylinders whether its 2 or 4 stroke. dont twist my words. before the thread gets locked. just replace the reeds!! its too cheap not too. lol i know hes probably not even reading this anymore.

as far as i'm concerned, if you havent went to school, taken classes or had any specific education on mechanics, then you are just a hillbilly shade tree mechanic at best and a knucklehead butcher hack at worst. monkey see monkey do mechanics dont impress me. anybody that can run a screwdriver , can remove and replace parts. a real mechanic knows the theory of mechanics, how and why things work. who ever said auto mechanics and this 2 stroke stuff is totally different, doesnt know what they are doing. there is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. just because you do it the wrong way and get away with it, doesnt mean its the right way. anybody that doesnt oil cylinders, doesnt know what they are doing.

Hey guys, im off riding one day and this happens to my thread about reafs and compression lol. So i flipped and cleaned the reads and cages real nice and they all sat good. ut everything back on.....and boom my comp went back to 180.....and i teied 2 gauges both said the same thing. Problem is i went to the delta to ride while my buddys wakeboarded, nottom hits way harder now as we were in a slow zone i was popping out ofbthe air no problem and no bog. As soon as i took off i got to speed and bogged out and died. Started and did again then it wouldnt start and i checked my plugs and foulef them andy spares i carry my buddy dropped in the water so i put it on his swim deck and went back to he dock. One problem on a diffrent not was that my scupper was leaking for somevreason but my bildges could eadily keep up. But i had to wakeboard all day ski wouldnt start. I think its too rich so il adjust accordingly. Anyone ride the delta in North CA?

Something else happened man, reeds won't affect your compression. I went with a friend to buy some blasters and one ski had 165/165 psi but it wouldn't start. I rebuilt the carb because it had good spark, still wouldn't start. Pulled the intake apart and 2 of the reeds were broken. Replaced them and it screams now. Still.., 165/165.
