i did verify both sets of plugs were sparking good in both cylinders. I have read that about the cdi, but no water in the ebox, same results with a stock cdi last time. I sure didnt do a log roll and come up with a bad cdi.

It backfired a number of times and i believe (as i sit here at work) that i shear the damn key again. Won't hurt to check i guess.

before you go and do all that work... charge the battery if you haven't been already. spray ether in both plug holes- NOT THE CARB!!!!!!! reinstall plugs, hit start button for a few seconds. if it fires or even pops-you are close. pull plugs, I will bet they are wet, even a little spot. dry plugs- repeat. sometimes it takes time.

although I hate to contradict jetaddict- any water on the crank and bearings will cause rust immediately unless its totally covered. being submerged under the water slows the rust, but once its out you have got to get it running and I would fog the hell out of it if you can't ride it right away and then for a few more days just to be damn sure I blocked the air.

hope you get it going soon

what happens with too much starting fluid.

I understand i may already be screwed but i have to keep trying. :aargh4:

I will try starting fluid. WHat course of action should i take if it is backfiring with that?

1-3 seconds should be sufficient. it should either start or nearly start- or not. don't crank it forever, just a few revs is all it takes to wet a plug. usually when it backfires (when all is good) it is due to all the fuel building up, a wet plug suddenly getting dry enough to ignite and bang!) just my experience. if you get repeated huge backfires- maybe you should go after the flywheel.

A few weeks ago same ski was running great then backfired randomly and it sheared the woodroof key. I made sure the timing was set right and it hadn't moved when I replaced it.

a backfire by it's self won't sheer a woodroof key. the woodroof key doesn't hold the flywheel in the correct place, the taper does after it's properly torqued.

WD-40 won't act like starting fluid anymore, I wouldn't even use it to clean plugs. Use carb cleaner or brake cleaner on the plugs and starting fluid down the spark plug holes. hate on haters.

Towing will flood an engine to the top with water and a flooded engine can take a long time to start.

true.

new WD40 isnt as flammable as the old stuff.

I use a paper towel, wipe plugs, blow them off, put them back in.

I did this last weekend.

took me nearly 45 minutes, about 20 cycles of plugs in, plugs out.

if it werent for a good battery ( odydseyy) I would have been on the charger.

that means there was still water in the cases........

Funny, I havent been thru this since I sold my last superjet :)tomato::wall:)..which happens to be the ski in question..

flipping it over, and spinning the starter will get it dry eniough where it'll usually fire off after 1-2 plug changes...

the demon is spot on.

YES>

Ill post some pics of where the ski was, lake is flooded ZERO shore line, tis brush.

I was on the ramp to my boat dock, and it wasnt wide enough to flip it upside down, I got it on its side, barely, but not enough.

ive done this bunches of times, IM not stupid, I was limited by factors beyond my control.

either way.

get your boat runnind dude or it will be fawked!

just an update:

It seems like it wants to start when i let off the start button. It does this a few times then backfires. (i am not holding the throttle open or hand over the carb hole) Very similar to last week when i sheared the key.

I had a similar situation, and it turned out the start stop switch. Swapped it out and it was fine. My ski had spark, but was intermitent depending on how hard I pressed the switch. Might be worth taking a few minutes to look at...

I had a motor that I didnt get started soon enough. it ran for a while but I had to keep braking it free with a wrench before it would start. It had the best explosion ever!

if it wants to start when you let OFF the start button that is most likely a bad red/white wire on teh stator or a bad MSD enhancer

the MSD used to be the first thing we jumped too, but someone figured out the stator trick...thread title is "are msd's really bad" or something like that..

Check a thread I had going a couple weeks ago. Same deal. Woodruff key. The more u crank it with a messed up key the more you mess up your flywheel and crank surfaces. Be safe and check the key. The labor sucks, but at least you will know. Check my thread if you get a chance. Thanks again from me to the guys here getting my boat going again.

Anyone want to buy an MSD light flywheel on the cheap???

Replaced flywheel with a lightweight stocker. It fired right up. I had all the water out of it yesterday. THe backfire KILLED my msd light flywheel when it sheared the woodruff key.

I was able to fix it and ride for an hour last night. I was really easy on it for 15 min. THen continued to beat the living s.hit out it. No issues.

I am going to order a carb rebuild kit for my wetjet carb incase it is a leaky needle and seat.

How can i stop the ski from backfiring if i sink it, then try to get it going.
