That's my plan! I live in one of these right now, but we hope to build one on a waterfront lot in the next couple of years.

Looks awesome Pegleg!!!! I just finished my house and have been saving my pennies to build me a shop. At the expense of being rude, I've got to ask, how many pennies am I gonna need to duplicate what you have built so far??? And "none of your business" will be an acceptable answer!!

A lot of factors can also skew that number you posted. Looks insane BTW and I am super jealous

Such as spray foam, 3 fully insulated doors, full sewer and water services, central AC, built in compressor shed, polished floor...

You have essentially built a second home for that price so that's actually pretty decent.

Exactly what I was thinking. I most likely couldn't even touch getting something like that built in Maryland for that price.

Are you doing any of the fast up doors like the dealerships use?

I just put AC in our garage and I'm afraid of opening the door and losing my temps.

No, not any fast close doors. I will try to keep them shut as much as possible. There is a lot of air space, and the insulation, so the temp would recover very quick.

3000 sq ft shop/living quarters for 80k. I’m the idiot that bought an 1850sq ft home built in 1957 for 408k with a 350sq ft detached shop. NY blows.

Looks like a fine job you’re doing so far though. I’m hella jealous

Thanks guys... I'm ready for it to be done for sure. They started painting inside this week, the stone is about 50% done outside. So just some paint, doors, and trim work.... then they get to dig and tie the drains into my septic lines.

I have less than 350k in my house and shop.... not only is New York to cold for my blood, the prices up there put the nail in the coffin for me!

It’s amazing how different the housing prices are from region to region. Your garage build prompted us to start looking for a new home with more space and we can’t touch that price for half the house. And we only live what, 4-5 hours away from you at the most???

Regardless, it’s a really good possibility that we are going to pull the trigger on a new home and this thread was the catalyst so thank you very much!!

The new OCD garage won’t be anywhere as big as yours though and try as I may, it won’t have its own bathroom either.

Spend the extra money on the foam insulation and HE appliances and lights. I'm total electric and in dead heat Georgia summers I haven't had a power bill over 130 bucks.

I’m not sold on the spray foam. We have it in our current house and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Our house is around 2000 sq/ft and our power bills average $350/month.

I like the idea of spray foam though and maybe ours was just done crappy and not thick enough.?.?.? Ours was done by a developer who bangs them out cheap and fast and details don’t really concern them... for instance, making sure they insulated everywhere...

We also have an all brick home which holds the heat for hours past sundown. Most houses start giving up heat the second the sun goes down where ours is radiating heat until the early hours of the next day. Thermal mass can be a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Unfortunately the new house we are looking at is already to paint stage so we are past the point for many changes. We meet next Wednesday to discuss options and make a deal.
