The weight difference is more than just power difference and air time. it changes the way the ski handles. The lighter skis seem to be very sensitive and tight turning on water and in the air, because the heavier ones just sit a little deeper in the water and are harder to move in the air.. That's my theory at least.

Jap + glass= cheap. Jap + ebay items/ goods= cheap. They make things inexpensive. Thats just how they do things. Unless im getting them mixed up with the chinese.. I always seem to do that hehe

you are mistaken. japan holds some of the highest quality standards ive seen in the auto industry. they more or less forced us auto makers to build a better product to even be competitive with them.

Japan and China are not alike at all. In fact they get very upset with people thinking this.

The Japanese are light years ahead of the United States in almost every technical field known. They try harder, longer, refuse to fail, and just plain have more motivation and general pride than us fat asses over here. Almost everything they do is better than us and we just cry about it and make excuses. Bottom line is hard work pays off, and they show it.

Sorry, I hate it when people compare China to Japan

By glass and bin the standard Gell Cell in favour of a Ballistic battery - there's your weight saving between carbon and glass for about $150.... Instead of $3k in the case of an XFS..

I am going to say this, the battery is not the place to save weight, that is all.

Who, besides Superfreak Skis?

My 2 gen's old Freak is glass..............and it has had some unusual things punish it. This past season it was in my garage and the tail caught the edge of the garage door rising. It lifted the rear of my ski about 6 feet and dropped it on the concrete. Nothing but chipped paint and a pee'd off owner happened. Plus, it's had three seasons of a hack, ham-n-egg rider and it's been fine.

He was working on something to try to make it happen when we talked in Daytona. I haven't talked to him since though.

Regarding the comments above about glass superfreaks... There is still hope, I have spoken to Tem and he is still considering getting glass skis into production. He has specific molds for vinylester/glass laminating. He is getting lots of requests for glass skis still... who knows.... :fingersx:
