Well if you are asking opinions I say get it replated, the piston to wall clearances can be set up much tighter, most of the Yamaha 800's and 1200's I have worked on with cast liners sounded horrible, the heat dissapation difference between cast liners and chrome bore is tremendous.

I was thinking of using the sbt cylinder exchange, but i will post an image soon if the cylinder wall to see if there is maybe a more simple fix. It’s an 01 xl 800.

that’s the damage i’m hoping the cylinders can be saved without a huge price.

Not really I see gouges in the cylinder walls, you might as well just get an SBT rebuilt engine if the crank and head are trashed. It will be cheaper in the long run.

That’s another consideration, but my thought was since their reputation isn’t the best i would buy parts and use all the oem parts i can that i trust more. I might be totally wrong, but it depends how much do you think the ski would sell for next spring. I’m not trying to make profit but i want to be in the positive by the time i’m done with it.

Okay I guess you will have to explain this one to me, the parts they use are get like the parts you will use if you buy the parts from them, but you will probably spend more money buying the parts individually and assembling it yourself. Hint it's not their assembly practices that are questionable here.

ahh i was under the impression that they just used pooptier parts for the engine hence the cheaper prices. But doing it myself still comes out cheaper so i might just do that.

What's wrong with boring the cylinders? Are they already oversized? That's much cheaper than doing a sleeve.
They are currently stock and it comes out about the same to get both cylinders sleeved from sbt or get the damaged cylinder replated. I wanted to keep stock piston sizes but at this point idk what to do.

You get the same parts from SBT whether you get a crank and cylinder exchange kit from them or a rebuilt engine. If you want the good stuff then have someone rebuild the crank, buy OEM pistons or Pro K pistons and have the cylinders replated .

Make sure your power valves have the "Wave Eater" type clips. Thats what killed a lot of the early GP800R's when the PV broke and dropped in to say Hello..lol

I’m trying my best not to be nuisance here but do you think after a full rebuild(on top of me getting the ski for 350$) i’d be able to get out in the end without losing money?

I can't say , I don't know what your parts cost is, what the total will be , what the rest of the ski looks like or what else it may need, and I especially don't know what these skis are going for in your area, you need to figure all of that out first, then figure out whether it is worth doing or not.

If you plan on keeping it sure, but if you are in it to make a few $ I'd just part it out

I’ve run several sleeved 66e engines, mostly strokers, and I’d take plated cyls over sleeves any day.
If you have one useable cyl and piston just have the other replated and get a piston.
If you’re going to get rid of the ski, I’d say if a sbt top end kit or engine is cheaper go for it.
If you’re keeping it I’d plate the cyl and be done with it .
Send the cyl w/piston to millennium tech and the crank to crankworks. You’ll probably have about a grand into the whole gambit give or take plus your time.
Depending on the area if you sell in the hot part of the season a nice condition gp800 fetches on average between 2-3k especially on a trailer.
Like stated above if you’re in it for money just part the ski out, the thrashed short block alone will probably fetch 350.

I don't get it first you didn't say what the cylinders were off of I guessed that one, we still don't know if it's a GP800 or an XLT800 and yes it will make a difference in selling price, how do you expect to get decent informative answers here without giving proper information, garbage in garbage out as the computer techs used to say.
