Cheap non OEM starters

Just got back from the starter shop. I took a newer SBT High Torque starter with maybe 50-60 hours on it, my fairly new DB Electrical "OEM Mitsuba" starter (maybe 30 hours) and a pretty old confirmed OEM starter whose bearings are starting to make noise.
Two tests were done on these:
1. Voltage drop test on the battery. I simply measured how much voltage the battery would drop during unloaded starter operation.

SBT - 0.63V
Old OEM - 0.83V
DB Electrical - 0.89V

2. Current draw - simply measures how much current each starter draws unloaded

SBT - 17 Amps
Old OEM - 25 Amps
DB Electrical - 24 Amps

Draw your own conclusions. I don't think that the DB Electrical "OEM Mitsuba" starters are truly OEM.

FYI, I just ordered a genuine OEM starter. I'm tired of messing around with cheaper alternatives that cause headaches.

Has anyone opened up a db to see what the armature and magnets look like in comparison to a true yami oem.that little diff in current, could be anything.Ive never had a sbt are they junk inside?

i think the seals are the key thing, the seals on the am starter i got were obvioulsy garbage, im thinking the water got in through the positive stud as there is just a plastic washer "stopping" the water getting in

It would be great if you could redoo those tests on the same motor at the same temps, lubrication, etc and check the loaded ratings including the new starter. I was just going to test my new OEM one to see how it compares, but will wait till you get yours so test are with same equipment. These tests will show a bad or worn starter, but wont show the difference in the rotors and stators, ie longevity.

I cannot check these starters loaded. I don't have the right equipment.
I will be testing a new OEM starter before I install it.

just installed my generic starter yesterday. This is only to get me through the next few weeks. Beach Vacation first of May. After that, I will probably order a good used one or just bite it and get a new starter.
