Just got my order from Hydroturf and Jetskisolutions.com

Got the $135 super strong Start/stop switch!
Big Roll of Hydroturf
Hydroturf Rail kit

Question is:

How the hell do you install the Rail kit?? My FX-1 side rails are smaller than Superjets and the Hydroturf sections seem way to wide. I wraped it from the top all the way around up and under my rail and there is a ton left over material that has no where to go??
- Do I have to cut these pre-cut kits??
- How do you hold this stuff in place so the glue dries? these are some drastic bends that need some force to hold in place!

If I do have to cut, I wish I would have just ordered another huge roll for $20 more. Thought the $40 pre-cut kit would eliminate me having to try and cut this stuff in a long straight line?

you need to get yourself some dap weldwood contact cement and a heat gun.
contact cement makes the turf like a sticker, the glue is dry before you put the turf in place. use the heat gun to form the turf around the corners, heat turns it very pliable and stretchable. after it is stuck you just trim the excess.

you really need to use this

Im sick of going through the OEM yamaha switchs "like exlax goes through the Fat ass mammas" The Rock Quote.

Splicing wires worked well for me last summer and I did a hack job at connecting them! Figure I could connect alot better with a little extra time involved!!

I used the search function and didnt find anything on rails on FX-1. Fx-1's have a smaller rail

Do I wrap the turf all the way up and around the lip or to I cut off the extra material at the edge of the lip??

Thanks FiveOaddict

Use contact cement to attach the turf to the top and side part of the rails. Just let the excess turf hang straight down off the sides of the rails. Give every square inch of it a good smack with a rubber mallet. Then go along with a very sharp knife and trim the turf flush with the bottom of the rails. When you trim the excess material off, cut it at a 45* angle. Don't try and cut it to the exact size before sticking it down. Some people even go as far as applying a small bead of crazy glue to the bottom edge of the turf to help keep it down longer.

1. never wrap turf up under the rails, the water pressure is going to tear them right off.

2. if you were a half a mechanic you would know that all you have to do is remove the contacts and clean the metal disk that is used to make the connections and the contact points. You can make a switch last years after they start acting up.

let me give you some advice.. when you ask questions, yes, you may get a stray answer from now and then, but when several people give you the same answer, take their advice or just move on if you dont want to, but dont start debating with them. WHy? because they have already tried what you had and found it not to work. These boards are great and full of knowledge. Yeah, we got some dickheads here like any website, but guess what, those dickheads also have knowledge that will help you out.

oh, as for glueing your turf, use the search feature here, better yet, go to the tech faq sections, there are writeups on how to properly turf skis. plus read the directions on the back of the can of contact cement.

The main reason I bought the switch was because I am moving to tampa FL in couple months and do not want any Start/stop switch issues with saltwater!

Is it true that some year yamaha switchs are more prone to failure than others?? If so, are the earlier years better or latter years

OEM Yamaha switches are just fine.

In saltwater, even.

But why do you ask? It's not like the collective opinion here matters, right?

so.....your saying I got ripped off by jetskisolutions.com?

No, it's a very nice switch, and John is a standup guy with good products.

I just like the duality of buying switches that cost out the ass, but being too cheap to buy a coil or proper spark plugs, or even oil.
