My good friend Frank (@blaster800) has talked about heading west and riding waves for as long as I can remember. We’ve talked about which ride and when for years but always have a reason we can’t go or reason we “aren't ready”. Enough excuses. We finally decided to make this Octobers Pismo Freeride our trip! Frank has never been out west and I've only a few times for a quick business trip and drove out twice to help a friend move. We are leaving Friday Oct 5th and have 16 days to fill. Our only must is a few days at the Pismo Freeride.

With our trip fast approaching we decided it was time to start coming up with a destination and driving plan. We want to roll with it and enjoy the journey but also have some planning so we make the most of the miles on the road. My one goal is to never drive on the same road twice. We plan to haul two skis in the truck bed and a enclosed trailer to live out of and store gear. Our idea for now is to take the following route and I threw in some some destinations but all are up for debate when en route.

If anyone has suggestions of places to see, stay, or can recommend a destination and experience along our way we would love to hear!

Sounds like a fun expedition I plan on doing the same thing but in the other direction visiting Daytona. I would recommend riding the waves at Oceanside you can camp overnight or longer in the parking lot. The wave riding is usually Great and its convenient easy to do, flush your ski`s etc. restaurants plus you really get the feeling of SoCal beach surf experience. Pismo is awesome when its not windy and is packed with all sorts of cool jetskiers but Oside is THE surf spot IMO. Have fun!!! I will keep an eye out for Pennsylvania plates

Oh man you can say that again there is always the possibility of HUGE surf, storms in the gulf of Alaska make for killer waves Really..I pray for favorable weather and light winds head high outside sets but you just dont know what the conditions will be at Pismo it changes quickly . California has some spectacular coastline thats for sure travelling down hwy 1 is worth seeing totally agree. Alot to see Mark see you there

be ready to get your asses kicked by some big west coast surf. hwy 1 along the ocean bluffs is some cool sights and if you went north of san fransisco, there is the big redwood forests. I could show you or take you to my secret riding spot in fort bragg for some gnarly washing machine surf.
'''gnarly washing machine surf '' Will make me feel right at home like riding the great lakes :)

Wow sounds like a blast! One for the memory banks for sure. I've always wished someone would invent a "coolstuffalongroute.com" looking forward to living vicariously through your adventure

it looks like you should hit worlds finals first, then hit the freeride after. that's what a lot of guys do. its $10 a day to camp on Pismo beach and if you get stuck, there is always a bazillion monster trucks, buggys and posers just itching to show off their HP / rig and drag you to packed sand. I never worry about burying my 2wd Tacoma POS or airing down

Ive been out there in a fwd rental toyota. Watch out for ruts and youll be fine.

Pismo is one of my top favorite places to ride. Nothing like that place here on the east coast.

Oceanside was a sick spot also. Maybe they will be doing tank drills on the beach. That was pretty cool to see. Surf was excellent when we went.
