So I know Jet Pilot makes some bomb comp vests, but what are some other bad boy vest we may not know about. I have seen Lenzi in some sweet looking vests in pics I believe. The Dakine Matrix Kiteboarding vest is my #1 pic for the slim, bad a lookin competition style vest i'm looking for. anyone got other?

If you want a nice Coast Guard approved vest, the Liquid Force Watson is nice. Its a side entry with the buckles on the side. Its smooth on the front so it wont scratch anything when your chest/belly rubs. It very flexable since its made for wakeboarders.

I've seen the non CGA vests get rave reviews by so many people but I don't understand what makes them any different from a regular vest other than being thin. Is that it? There are countless CGA vests that give full shoulder and arm movement so I can't see that being it.

That's what I am using and I like it a lot. The dip$#!t in the pics isn't me lol...

I still use an old school slippery matrix...don't like the neo vests, TOO HEAVY. plus, I want some protection and floatation. (and I kinda want to be legal!)

I think it has to do with the amount of flotation material used and the way the vest performs if you were knocked unconscious. The CGA ones are supposed to keep your head titled back if you go out, not face first in the water.
The comp vest will float you lightly, but thats about it.

great thread so far guys I like the Freestyle vest by Jobe. I am not too concerned with being legal for riding where we ride. We almost do what we want here in rural alaska. and my comp vest with wet suit, helmet, ect. float me comfortably if I were stuck in the water. But for comps and riding down in the real world. where some of you poor bass-tads gotta put up with very strick laws, being legal is important.

question is, will a CGA approved vest REALLY roll you over on your back, in the surf, while wearing a helmet.............????????

Honestly, most CGA vests I've worn don't roll you over on your back even without a helmet. Maybe if you caught the lucky swell that rolled you, the vest would keep you there but that's about it.

I guess my original question was never really answered on why people like these vests so much so I did some looking a while back. It looks like some of them offer rib cage protection... I can see the benefit of that but is that the whole purpose of these?

well I just want something to give me some chest protection, look bad a$$, and give me extra floatation. I was also wanting a side entry vest with no button or anything of the front so that if i do hood tricks it won't scratch my paint or damage a borrowed ski : )
