Crazy Joe's BAM V2 build

I spent the entire evening last night finishing up the blocks for the pipe and waterbox. I actually had to add a few more layers of turf to the tall block than what is shown in the picture. I got them all molded and glued in to where I think everything is in a perfect spot. I was dreading this part of the build and I am glad its done. I had enough various length straps for all of it with the exception of the three short ones for the fuel tank. I am either going to order some from JetManiac or make some custom.

Nice ski! I am sure I will be asking you some questions as I get to tuning this thing. I would love to meet up and have you ride mine after I get it tuned so we can see how close they perform.

Fancy fate

Can't have anything nice.

For sure just hit me up. I work in west Detroit so I can always bring my ski with me

I hate how the outlet on these PF waterboxes are at an angle. I picked up a 45 degree stainless elbow in anticipation of not being able to connect to the hull outlet with a straight coupler. I was able to make this work however a 30 degree elbow would have been perfect. Still, serviceable. I will be running t-clamps for the final install.

I started on some plumbing as well. I am running a strainer for each inlet line. I got these off amazon in 1/2 inch size for 9 bucks. Tonight I am going to start tackling the electrical. My start/stop switch cable is too short to make it all the way down the pole and the wires coming from the ebox to the start/stop are a mile long so I am hoping no cutting or soldering needed. If I do need to, I have oem connectors I got from JetManiac so its all watertight.

I wanted the peace of mind with the strainers. I didn't use the cold fusion tool. I set the pump and shimmed it until I could put the midshaft over the driveshaft and bolt it to the bulkhead without putting any up/down or side/side pressure on it. The trim is a non pro version of Thrust. I am running an Odyssey MTB brake lever that I dirlled out to accept the cable end. How much spring pressure should be on the steering nozzle to hold it up? I ran one spring but it seems kind of weak so I may add another.

Thanks for the offer! I feel comfortable with how everything is aligned. I will check it on the first ride for any vibration or excessive heat. I am hoping to fire the ski tomorrow. Are you running a scupper or a bilge or both?

I had to shorten some straps I had from various part outs to hold the fuel tank down. I tried the knot method and they were still too long. I cut the straps to length, wrapped the end back over itself, then used a long 3/16 rivet and backer to hold it together. Super solid and unless you look specifically for it, you would never know they were shortened.

Below is the completed engine pic with the exception of the fuel lines. I had it routed as you see below with the black fuel line I got from my local True Value. This line ended up being a problem as even with zip ties on the barb fittings, the line was expanding and not staying tight. Lucky I had some of the red kart line so I redid all of the routing and everything is solid now. I am not running the fuel shut off valves either. One of them was leaking and I decided it was not worth the risk.

First ride report.

Ski started right up after getting the carbs primed. I floated it to check for leaks then took off. Seemed to run good and all cooling lines were flowing water but after only about 5 minutes it started acting up and finally died. I diagnosed that I was having a fuel delivery issue with one carb so decided to drive back home. This is where I removed the shut off valves thinking they were causing an issue. I didn't really get anything figured out until I grabbed the throttle and noticed one of the butterflys was opening at a slightly different angle than the other. Turns out I did not tighten two of the set screws on the shaft linkage that ties the butterflys together. After fixing that, went back to the lake and rode it for an hour off an on. I had to open the valve to allow a bit more water into the stinger because the waterbox was getting hot. Other than a slight low end hole in the carb tuning it is running good. I have not touched the carbs yet so I am confident I can dial that out.

The hull rides amazing. Just as I remember when I rode Joe's personal ski. Ski turns on a dime and launches out of the water like crazy. The engine makes tons of power and it is not even tuned yet. I am very happy with my decision to build this ski happy with everything Joe built as well.
