Custom/Hybrid Custom Hull that rides like a superjet! Rec SKI

so whats the deal with the world finals? do companies bring demo skis that you can try out or are you just saying that he can probably ask some guys to ride their personal skis? I've never been but plan on making the trip next year.

I've been trying to research this same thing. I want to get an AM hull in the next couple of years but I dont have access to riding any since I live in CO. I've seen one bob on the lakes. the rest of the skis are 650sx and SJ's. I'm sure you've seen this video but I thought it was cool what rickter XSF's can still do with a stock 701. skip to 4:10 into the vid to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjuD06hQEVs I heard one issue with rickters is that the gel coat flakes off like crazy, but like I said, I haven't seen one in person.

Rickters use to have an issue with this. RRP is constantly improving their product and don't really advertise what they have changed for the better. I have owned 3 Rickters now and never seen this issue.

Ya that was only a problem on early rickters

Thanks everyone for the input! Everyone has good ideas. I am going to keep reading and try and figure out what I am doing this winter. I know one thing for sure I am getting rid of my Kawi 750sx and keeping my SN SJ. I just need a second ski because going by yourself is no fun!

DUDE, I know what your saying there. Sucks riding alone, best plan is sell the SX to a freind LOL!
I promise I have no PERSONAL attachment to any company that builds hulls. Tem with superfreak is a nice guy but I would not steer you there because I like HIM. I honestly think a -6.5 superfreak Badass hull in carbon would fir for what you want now and what you will want soon. Nice handling hull that can chase boats down and carve but still light enough to flick around.
The KDX is awesome for Straight up flatwater freestyle, it pops better off setup wakes, rides higher in the water and is more agile for being simular weight to the freak. But I personally would not want one for boat chasing, rides high and pops hard even when ya dont want it to IMO. I would still own one for flatwater if I could own 2 hulls.

I just hate to see guys settle for something close to an SJ when they will want to upgrade again in half a season. Its takes time and $ to build and rebuild and change. In a few rides you will love most AM hulls out there, do not judge a hull by one test ride or a few rides on a buddies boat. I HATED the KDX the first time I rode it. Three for four rides in on flatwater and I was in love with exactly what I hated previously.
A carbon rok is nice also on flatwater, little nose down but something you learn to adjust to, wide open is ok and they pop nice. Carbon roks are sketchy as far as quality though, they have issues structurally that if not reinforced propperly will cause you headaches. The glass rok is STRONG but heavier than I like, still better than any SJ style hull IMO.
Hulls I would steer away from ONLY DUE TO YOUR RIDE STYLE, Q8 anything Q8 (nice, light and strong for FW but not a boat chaser) IMO. BOB GEN1 or 2 I know but cannot speak for the Hurricane, IMO they are purpose built for BF anf FW FS. older glass freaks tend to have structural issues and are too heavy IMO unless your in surf.
Rickters are super nice boats any accept the FS1 anyway. Unfortunately they are HEAVY, Way better than an SJ but too heavy to keep you happy long term AGAIN MY OPINION.
Stunt hull (not many left out there but dont be suckered by the cheap price, they are a waste of even cheap composite materials. JUNK PERION.
These are the hulls I know some about. Hope this helps bro. By no means do I expect ANYONE to take my word as THE WORD, but this forum is about sharing your thoughts and info you have with others CORRECT? These are mine and I am entitled to them and entitled to share them if i like.
I do think you should not be afraid to get out of the SJ confort zone though. The hulls I mentioned were good IMO above were all 4-5 rides and you love them hulls except the freak, 2 rides and your more comfortable than an SJ IMO, they are like FS hulls with training wheels LOL.
Rickter FS2 is very easy to get confortable on as well. Just not a long term hull unless your in surf IMO.
ROK took about 4 rides to feel good on.
KDX about 5 rides and she is still on edge but thats what makes it fun, same as a Q8 (not a Q8 sky) but an original Q8, durable, light but edgy, the SKY was horrible to me but did not have much time on it. These latter 2 are IMO flatwater awesomeness, not so great boat chasers.

AGAIN, DONT HATE WATERFREAK we all have our opinions. I do not have any time on a Vision but would like to try it for more than 10 mins sometime. The wammer hulls are nice but IMO too SJ like, long and slow to turn.

Here is what I know from experience. I had a bob gen 2 and sold it just because it was not fun to rec ride. Currently ride a rickter fr2 and yes it is heavy! I have tried to overcome that with a bigger motor and pump but it still is just too heavy for big flat water tricks, maybe look at a FS model, they are lighter. I will be keeping the Rickter because it is awesome and tons of fun to ride both on the lake and in the surf but I am also looking at another f.w. hull like a KDX, backie chan, etc. to sit next to the rickter. You're not too far away so if you can make it up to Boise you are welcome to try out my ski.

I have never been to World Finals but am thinking about it this year just to check out hulls in person. Is it a good time to actually purchase a new or used ski/hull on the spot?

I came from an SXR and was looking for the same thing you are now... Ended up with a Rickter FS-2. I would certainly check one out. I don't think you would be disappointed. I really enjoyed mine.
How does it ride compared to your SXR? What about just cruising around the lake? Does is porpoise a lot at high speeds or WOT? Thanks

An fs-2 handles very well at speed and does not porpoise at all. If cruising around the lake is all you do the sxr will be a better ski. If you want to throw some freestyle in to the mix while you are cruising around the lake you will love the fs-2.

i look at it this way if you never want to be the next flatwater guy and generlly suck at flat water and still go fast and still try a roll on a boat wake or flat get a full size ski that handles .....if you want to learn to flip flatwater then get a purpose built flatwater ski...
DSC06402.jpgDSC06554.jpg the guy in the black is 6foot 5 .. and cant ride any flatwater ski LOL so will never get a flatwater boat as they are to hard for him just to ride and get going so he can ride a full size ski no dramas
