Other Custom Ski Insurance Information Thread

I have USAA, and use progressive through them. I pay $43 a month for both my SXRs. I have all the above coverage except the bodily injury and med payments. I have medical insurance so....why pay for more coverage.

I think progressive is among the best rates though.

Insurance is important, thats for sure. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to accept their offer or if I'm going to keep looking around.

Are you running your carbs that direction because of the intake manifold or does Art suggest they be run like this? I have mine the other way on a stock 760 mani.

Also, back to insurance...
I spoke with Progressive the other day and they said they will NOT cover any losses on a ski that has a state issued HIN number, period. Liability only. Even if the ski was a bone stock Superjet that was issued a new HIN for some reason or another. I'm still searching for someone that will cover my BOB with a homebuilt title & State issued HIN number...

Might want to try a real insurance company. I just dont have much faith in Ins. Companies like Progressive.

I need to call them and verify this. If it is indeed a problem, then I don't want to be giving them any money.
The HIN was on the application, it should have been very obvious it's state issued. I guess that wouldn't stop them from taking my money.

I don't remember that he recommends one way or another. That's how he sent the motor to me. I suspect it's more because of the manifold, though.

Please do specify who a real insurance company is? My agent I've been going through since I was 16 has contacted everyone he could think of without any luck. Progressive has treated me fair in the past doing a customized policy on my show truck and covering my supermoto that no one else would.

Progressive sent me a cancellation notice today. They detected a state-issued HIN - automatic cancellation.

I could see a regular insurance company possibly doing liability only. Covering the ski itself would be beyond their limited minds.

I Googled for:
high performance boat insurance

The first link was >50k and >26 feet

A few link down looked potentially promising:
http://www.unitedmarine.net/boat_insurance/personal_watercraft.asp

It might cost you more than a generic company but as someone said you don't want to find out when they deny the claim due to fine print.

Alright,l just logged in to their website, put the information in about my ROK hull.l asked for $12000 value and $50000 liability and the cost came out to $316.l asked for a rep to call me back and l will report back as to what happens.l also want to check out the insurance company in the mean time.

That's what happened with me, too. Once they process your application and check on the HIN, they will deny it. (Assuming you didn't "transfer" an existing HIN)

That is exactly what happened Matt.He asked me if it was a custom ski, cause he read it was a waterdawg from my online app. Then l got "Sorry,we do not insure custom skis". l really expected that answer.

You should call them back, your ski isnt a custom ski...custom means one of a kind, waterdawg and superfreek are hull builders, Ive found Terminology is half the battle with insurance idiots

This is very clear cut for then: state issued HIN = no bueno.
No aftermarket hull sold today is legally insurable under those terms.

These days everything can be insured, you can get life insurance for pets lol, Any way you can tie your home insurance to an A/M hull? There has to be away

My insurance rep has tried everyone he can think of, even signed up with a few specialty places with no luck any where. Right now I've resorted to trying to get it covered under my home owners / renters against theft, fire etc. and also transportation in case it gets hit or something on the trailer.

Are people really riding $20k+ skis without any coverage?
