D-cutting an old rideplate

what are the gains of a D cut plate on a standard ski. what what exactly does it do/allow

I would definately widen that cut so it extends close to the edges like California said. I did this and love it but now that rideplate is at the bottom of the lake and I have other issues...

D cutting like that allows you to sink the back of the ski more which will allow you to get more air when jumping.

I'd read several posts that said to us a 1-quart paint can as the template, so that's what I used.
