Damaged flywheel

Bendix bushing wasnt in place so the bendix wasnt in place. Caused this to happen.... do I need a new flywheel? I just got this one.. uploadfromtaptalk1470178281386.jpguploadfromtaptalk1470178297910.jpguploadfromtaptalk1470178313363.jpguploadfromtaptalk1470178320717.jpguploadfromtaptalk1470178326898.jpg

I wouldn't use it because of the teeth on the flywheel. Its a gamble I don't like to take.

I would shake the bendix and twist it to see if the internals are intact . Ive had a bendix do the same kinda damage. The spring on the inside of the bendix let loose and worked everything over under the cover.

That flywheel is toast. The damage to the teeth is enough to justify binning it. Gouging/embedded material may have thrown the balance out a bit, but the chewed-up teeth are the clincher.

Stunned Bendix has held up as well as it appears to in images. Be aware that if the teeth on that are damaged there will be issues when it interfaces with the new flywheel. As per previous poster, make sure the Bendix is still OK to use.

I see you are only 18 and this is probably more of a disaster in fiscal terms than it would be to most of us. In future try to be methodical and not rush things (I bet you just figured that out yourself, anyway). We were all young once and doubtless made similar errors (I know I did).

Get yourself a workshop manual, source the required parts and get this behind you. Good luck.

I have seen ring gears that were waaay worse work fine for multiple years but i guess the internet will always have different opinions. Some people have to have everything mint to have piece of mind though.

You may have a bigger problem...
In the pictures it looks like the bushing that holds the back of the bendix, (inside the case) is shot.
Clean that up and check it out. If the Bendix flops around in there It will bind up and cause you a lot of problems. The bendix should fit in that bushing with minimal side to side movement.

Yeah I shouldve noticed, especially since I was just in there replacing the stator and flywheel right before this happened.

Don't even bother trying to swap a bushing from another case. Just buy new from jetmaniac or you can buy aftermarket from McMaster.
