Dave Ramsey, debt, credit cards, retirement, etc

My wife and I have completely destroyed our dept. We Started our lifes together "living the american dream" about 4 years ago. We built a $145,000 new house(too big and complicated just for 2 ppl), bought a $34,000 fourdoor 4x4 Nissan Titan Loaded truck, run a CC up to 10 grand, we had wine taste on a beer budget. The other auto we had was a $9000 Accord. We completely over extended ourselfs! Its be a long hard road, but we consolidated our truck and furnature payment with our equity on our home, sold the truck and started paying other things off. I lost about $10 grand on the new truck deal, what an investment! We just sold our house a month ago, we are going to rent for a while. Now we have a car and a truck that both equals about $10 grand what we paid for them and they are good reliable vehicles. The autos are paid for. All we owe on now is about 6 grand, then we wont owe a penny to anyone. I will never finance again. Interest will kill you in the long run. We're planning to build another house FULLY out of our pockets whether it takes 3-5 years to complete, we dont care. I've learned enough off the 1st one to do most of the work on my own. And yes we have a good savings started. Being dept free makes your whole life more enjoyable! No pressure means you can enjoy your time here more. A good tip with the autos is to try to stick with japanese brands cause of reliablility and resale. Our civic has 205,000 miles on it and I trust it to take off to Cali and back. Sorry for the long post but thought I would share some of my info with you. Break the dept bondage.

Wow, very nice story.

It really is a nice feeling to not have payments every month on stuff that you know is dropping in value every minute.

can someone explain why a 1k emergency fund is better than paying down a CC 1k? the money is still available if needed and knocking out some interest is paying the CC down.
