Do you think competition history adds value to a ski?

Ok, so I've been rocking the Ant Burgess 2013 world finals winning ski since the summer. I've turned it into a very nice ski but the paint is 7 yrs old and the bottom paint is black (not original). Orange isn't really my color of choice. Do you think it loses value if i repaint it in a completely different color scheme? I'm leaning towards repainting it - I'm not sure anyone really cares about or adds value because a ski won world finals but I'm curious about other people's experience here.

I'd say it's pretty negligible. The former skis of greatness I have/had didn't have any additional monetary value, but are/were cool to me. Most of the skis I own now are something special, I've sold quite a few of the non special ones. Some buyers care, most don't.

In my personal opinion there would be value in competition skis from the 90s that are still to spec, ridden by a pro, and still in great shape. I’ve seen exact replica 550s sell for big bucks and let’s face it, it’s super cool to see that kind of history today.

Also, in my opinion, a carbon hull that was used in competition decreases the value for me if I’m buying it to ride it. Most pros go BIG and push their skis to the limit. That’s their job, to push the ski to do the impossible. I think you’d gain value by painting your dvx. The nicer the hull, the more money you’ll get.

Is it even the original spec ski Ant rode ?
Pretty close. Has a non-original C1 1200 and a 155 one piece pump. He ran a 163 I believe. Still has the 2013 ijsba world finals number on the pole

Good point about wear and tear. I think I’ll prob paint it at some point (been working on a paint job on my 54 Chevy 3100 so getting quite confident with pretty good quality base/clear jobs)

Well that tells you everything man. You turned a world finals winning ski in to a "very nice ski"

...wait what?

I would leave the paint alone. No ones buying that ski for a paint job, they buy it because its a proven freestyle machine

Not entirely following you? I might have confused the topic I guess. I’m not actively trying to sell it. I’d like to repaint it for my own enjoyment. I’m just pondering how it will impact resale in the future. Sounds like painting it won’t hurt and might help.

I totally misunderstood you. I thought you were selling it. That is my bad, lol

I do think history adds value to a ski, btw. But it can also diminish value. You say its a world finals winner. If the hardware that makes it run is there yes. Who actually cares about paint on a stand up jet ski
