Idk, maybe it's just me, but it blows me away how many people ride dirty. In CA it's $20 for two years registrations, and $29 to register as a homebuilt initially. If you can't afford that, an choose to risk it on a high dollar ski, then that's your bad when they take it. An hour or two at DMV, filling out a form sure seems a LOT easier to me.

You screwed up somehow.lol You showed em the receipt from Tem for what you paid for the hull outta Florida? Shouldn't cost anywhere near that much.

i did mine like i bought the ski from tem
the first time i went to the dmv they wanted a manufacturers certificate of origin... they wanted to know how he made the skis, where he got the material, and how much he paid for everything
it was easier for me(not so much for tem) to register the ski in florida and i just transferred everything to california

In California if you buy or make a hull with no hin numbers they will assign a hin #. The boat is considered special construction and then you will have to make and attach a hin# plate. It seems like DMV doesnt care much about stolen boats. Its much more difficult to register a special construction car or motorcycle. CHP makes a vin plate or tag and attaches it to the vehicle so no one tampers with it.

That is the case in every state - because the whole HIN registry deal is a federal issue.

i had tem send me some reciepts, they asked why they were from fl and i told them i had a friend from fl that brought the supplys with him to ca and we built it at my house. also dont state that any one part on your ski equals $2000.then they want all the reciepts for that part that adds up to $2000(if that makes any sence) i just put down $1700 something for the hull and $1600 or so for the motor added in labor and so forth. also it was only one form.

Its not by choice, even though I am here in SoCal I personally am not from california or am a california "resident" I am still a washington resident. So in order to get a home built title for my ski I would have to find a way to get my ski all the way from here back to washington just so they can see it (since you have to have everything inspected). I have no way to do this. leaving me with very few options.

Matt, you living you my home town, if you know anymore information about this that would allow me to get mine taken care of without shipping my ski home, let me know. All I have gotten is the run around on the phone
Thanks

There was no inspection. They didn't want to see the ski. I simply took my (fabricated) receipts to the auditor's office, paid the fee, and walked out with newly assigned HIN and registration ten minutes later. I got the title mailed to me four weeks after that.

Here in South Carolina, I showed the receipt for my hull from Trinity Composites, pics of the completed hull from 4 different angles, and a statement letter with all the details of the ski including details of the donor ski. They did not send anyone out to actually confirm or inspect my ski.

I had more Hassle explaining the difference between a hull and a boat than anything. The agent I dealt with kept saying that the boat manufacturer was to supply the HIN and that I should contact them. She was clueless and took 4 weeks to figure it out. Needless to say I rode a few times without documentation. I did however have a copy of my application and supporting documentation in my glovebox just in case.

That place may or may not know about it. Seems to be hit or miss. I dealt directly with the main auditor's office.
