Having my brother build me a trailer .. I have seen some sweet set ups and have some ideas but if any of you can add pictures it may help a lot ..

what I want is a basic trailer fro TWO stand ups mainly it will be carrying a Superjet and a SXR kawi ... BUT it will alos need to be capable of taking the Blaster in place of one of teh others skis ,. Not a big deal but I think the blaster is just slightly wider ..

Also want it to have spot for a gas can or two and be able to carry at least half of our easy cart .. the bottom frame and the wheels .. the hndle can stay in the back of the car along with teh removable rollers on the cart ..

we are estimating about $600 with full size tires and rims we can get for about $80 each .. I know its overkill but we can get a 3500lb axle for about $140 with leaf springs .. already have a winch I may set up on the sxr side and a post mount for the sj side ..

FWIW I would considder building a 3 place trailer. The extra width would give you room for a Blaster and one ski, or 2 skis and a beach cart. That's what I have now, and it met my needs pretty well for when I don't need to tow my 9 place ski trailer around.

When you say you guys are building it...do you mean from the ground up, or are you converting a single trailer over?

The best trailers I have found to convert over are Bear brand single jetski trailers. They are wide enough that you can fit a blaster and a superjet side by side without them touching....If I wanted to build some brackets to raise the bunks and clear the fenders I could actually get a few inches between them if not more. As it sits right now they have about 1/2" between the rails.

3500 pound axle is not necessary at all and I would not pay extra to get that. Unless you plan on hauling something very heavy(which probably wouldn't fit on that trailer anyways) I would go with a cheaper axle.

I can send you some pictures of my setup if you want to see them. Pretty similar to the ones picture above though. It is getting finished here shortly..going to weld in some bars to mount the pole/pin setups and move the storage bin a bit further(or maybe even remove it completely and put gas tank holder in).

well thinking about going with that larger axle only because its pretty much same price .. sure nightrider post some pics ..
here is teh trailer my bro built to carry teh beatle they picked upa few weeks back .. it is not a car hauler as a beatle is VERY light .. but will also double as a utility trailer bringing anything back and forth from the family cottage .. he can stick posts in the sides the way he built it and easily adds sides whicH I am sure he will do when he needs them ..

The red trailer in the first post is mine. I blaster and a superjet fit perfect on it with about an inch in between them. I can give you measurements if you would like.

Just to input my .02....

Make the trailer low like the 1st one. Some boat trailer ride way to high.... especially for stand up's. The lower trailer makes it nicer for backing in and keeping your car dry (help rear diff last longer, brakes, ect)

I made a three place. it works great. for two skis and dolly (i dont have a dolly, but thinking to the future). Also if you only pull one ski you can load it in the middle. Pics are when I first got it done, Has a new box and a front bow mount for the middle ski now.

I know one of my favorite things about my current trailer setup is the plastic locker box on the front of it. The only issue is it takes up so much space which is very limited on a single trailer setup. In order to move it any further forward I will have to consider removing the jack..or see if I can relocate it further back.

I always keep my riding gear, basic tools, gas can and extra oil in the box. Its lockable so I don't have to worry about people walking off with stuff at the parking lot.

hey guy .. measurements would be a huge help .. YES since i am building from scratch I am considering a 3 place tariler.. How wide is your 3 place trailer ? JJC568 ? and snowxr ?
I was thinking if its too wide I could always pull my skis to overhang a few feet off teh back and slip one sideways up front ? maybe have a removeable storage box ... and still have enough room for the cart .. or maybe when trailering three I will have to go without cart like when i am heading to the cottage ( I have gehto wood cart up there ) ..
my brother like to move fast and is already asking me how wide i want the trailer so he can order a axle ..
yea a box up front for stuff would be nice too .. at least teh gas jugs

Here is a POS trailer I have been working on a little bit. It only has to travel about 1/4 mile to the boat ramp. Ghetto covers are from an old tarp.

My single/double is long enough that I could remove the front storage box and add another jetski sideways...Only issue I would run into there is excessive tongue weight. My axle brackets are solid mounted so I can't just slide axle forward to change tongue weight.

I have built a few of these. I like to put the fuel jugs right in front of the fenders to minimize tongue weight. I also really like to put a box on the front of it. You can keep all of your wet gear and oil in there. If you get a big enough one too, you can put a small BBQ in there. The box will also keep some of the rocks from your tires from getting to your skis too. Good luck!

ok guys .. updates is bought the steel for the trailer .. all rectangular tubing think it was 1.5 by 2.5 ish .. so it will be 5 by 9 feet .. ist already cut that size with fours cross bars so 6 all together with front and rear .. two 9 foot sides ,.. also bought squarish fenders 14 inch trailer tires 3500lb axle chain etc .. pretty much it just needs to be welded together now and bunks added .. my hope is for two side by side .. room up front for gas cans and dolly maybe a box .. and hoping i can get a third one sideways up front if i dont remove the gas cans .. the rest will be a build in progress ,, changes along the way .. will post some pics when we start and finish ,,,

Well, a bit late, but here's my homemade trailer with ski's. It doubles as my utility trailer (ski's are stored inside when not at the lake, trailer is outside). Each sits on it's own beach cart when on the trailer (wheels and axle come off). Sorry, no pics of that set-up with me today.

VERY nice set up ! love the white matching the van .. I was thinking mine may be done in just black ( cant go wrong with black ) or maybe grey if they have grey tremclad .. as my escape I will be towing it with is grey .. will be settingmy two stand up skis back as you did with the beach cart up front and room for at least two jerry cans ..
mine will be similar to that red trailer in the pics but was going to leave in bare beneath the bunks and a flat wood surface of about 5 by 2.5 feet up front .. hopefully be able to put a third ski up front if i remove the cart ...

mine is 9 feet 3 inches long not incliding up front triangle or tongue .. and 5 feet wide not incuding fender width ,,, hopefully the sksi rail will be above the fenders .. not sure on fender height yet ..

Thanks for the compliment. A bit about my trailer...I designed it for the ski's, but wanted it to double a utility trailer (easy to remove bunks). Since the trailer doesn't fit in the garage (with everything else in there), the ski's had to come off. I do it by myself. The beach carts slide onto the trailer inside angle tracks I made. The tracks are easy to take off, but I leave them on in utility mode. The entire trailer surface is expanded metal, and works well for everything else I've hauled, including firewood. The rectangular section is 12 feet long. I used a 3500# axle for the bigger bearings/tires along 2K springs for a softer ride. The overall width is 96", but I don't remember the width between the fenders (approx. 80"). I don't believe the rails are over the fender though. There is about 4-5" between the ski's when loaded. I plan to add stack pockets and additional tie downs to the sides of the trailer, along with some small handcrank winches up front. Overall the trailer works great, and is light enough that I can manually push it in my front yard for parking (small, tight front yard). Oh, mine is 2X4X 1/8" main tubing with crossbars that are 1X3X 1/8". It's strong. As for color...white was the cheapest It's an industrial oil enamel with ISO hardener from the local paint shop, and sprayed great.

If I was going to do it again, I'd probably substitute change out the expanded metal for marine plywood sprayed with bedliner (Al's liner works great). I would also reduce the weight a little with lighter crossbar materials. I would like to add airbags for weight adjustment purposes in the future. Finally, I'd add trailer brakes (for those time when it's really loaded down coming out of the mountains). I hope to build an aluminum toyhauler within the next year or two, and will use the same beach cart concept to put the ski's inside. With the toyhauler I won't have to take the wheels off during transport.

hey I welcome your input ! .. If I were building mine myself ( I do not weld) I would be taking my time on it and would be able to get better thought put into it .. my brother has done a great job welding it up and now dragged it home ready to test fit etc .. and decide how and where I would like to attach the cart .. may possibly make a box out of wood up front .. in the triangle .. bought a gallon of metal clad paint today from colour your world and will be rolling/brushing it on .. chose a mid grey and not sure if i will do axle same or black .. similare to you i chose a 3500 axle with 2000 lb springs .. larger tires yet softer ride .. towed it home empty .. too light and did a bounce ..
