Dry pipe solinoid done (last minute B4 Daytona)

Got a FP dry pipe with ecwi.

How can i tell if the solenoid is working?? :shooter3: Installed an inline filter and it's dry after a ride. Wonder if it was ever working at all or if the salt played a factor. What rpm does it come on and off? Is it on during idle?
Just what the "F" is going on here?

Just ride
you can tell if it's working by puting on a b-pipe. haha just kidding. if i were you i'd just take it off. i have a freeride dry pipe i want to run, with a stock daul carb motor, at daytona but i'm afraid i'm going to be screwing with the pipe the whole time i'm there so i'm just gonna stick with my single carby barby and b-pipe. sorry i couldnt be more help.

Unplug the wires from the solenoid and put them on positive and negative on the battery. You should hear a click as it opens. If there's no click, there's no worky.

If you do have a click, blow into the inlet side of the hose and make sure you can blow in it when it's activated.

I don't know what is so hard about setting up a dry pipe...they're easier to setup than a b-pipe. There's no screw settings to worry about and the water lines are very basic. Hook them up, go for a ride and check your temps. Too cold? change the water lines or add some restrictors to hold the water in longer. Too hot? get rid of some water overboard or make the system more free flowing.

I use a type 9 for flat and surf now, and I love it.

im with you brutha! :usa2:

Even dry pipes can benefit from water injection, not always but I've seen work with every type of pipe but it does depend on the combo.

To test the water solenoid, take it off, take it apart and clean plunger and blow out the holes to make sure no clogs. Then put it back together dry except a little grease on the threads, hook up the inlet to your garden hose with a flush kit adapter, turn the water on, make sure it doesn't leak, use a pair of jumper leads clipped to a battery, and touch to the solenoid wires and watch it shoot out water every time you touch the wire. If it doesn't work, replace it with a NEW one. If it does work reinstall on ski leaving the outlet hose off and back the ski down into the water still strapped on the trailer and run up and down the rpms with the pump in the water and watch for the water shooting out the disconnected hose, turning off at idle or low rpms then coming on in the mid range, then turning back off at full throttle (high rpms). if not working check the fuse for the controller, if ok, try re-wrapping the signal leads around the sparkplug wire(s) test again, if still doesn't work replace controller. If you find anthing bad we have all the parts in stock should you need any...

Supertune, your the man.

Your advise helped me in the past with jetting and i think i'll try just what you said. Yes, it comes on strong with a monster midrange pull. But i heard that for tricks and quick throttle response you need the ecwi. thanks

Well ,came home for one day and took the motor out to do some hull repairs and discovered the water injection solenoid is broken on the base. Not working.

Parts ordered. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MSD-4340&N=700+115&autoview=sku

This time i will install the solinoid in a remote area away from the vibrating engine.

I'm trying also to rig a front exhaust with existing parts and some fabrication. At the same time, install a scupper and use that hole in the rear. Get rid of all that exhaust tubing too.

All this to do before daytona!:eek:mfg::eek:mfg::eek:mfg::eek:mfg::eek:mfg::crying:

The parts wont get here until a week B4 Daytona.

Here's the Broken base.

I'm going to put it in a remote location this time for better access. I think i will remove the restrictor from the outlet tube since the extra length of the tube will mean more travel when the water initialy starts traveling to the stinger. I'll bend a bracket and bolt it to the front cover.

Well just have to see how this goes.

Not a bad idea. I'll be in Miami for Christmas, I'll call on the 26th Chuck.

Summit said it was a special order part, I want it now.

While were on the subject, are there any do not's when installing a new ewci? I picked up a new kit and will be installing it on my type 4 when the motor goes back in.

The only do not for me is... not to hard mount the solenoid to the pipe, I use stock Superjet fuel vent hose and a 1/4 fitting in the solenoid and zip tie it somewhere close to the injection fitting, thus keeping the hose as short as possible.

I was going to fab a bracket to mount it away from the stinger. You say it can dangle with no support? Just hang there zip tied to the hoses? I like that better, less travel.

I agree w/Koko. If the solenoid is mounted rigidly, the valve can be shaken open(or break). I always mount mine as close to the sprayer as possible. The solenoid is only open for a fraction of a second so any delay in water delivery makes the ECWI less effective. You may also want to tap the sprayer for Mikuni main jets so you can reduce the amount of water injected. Somewhere in the range of 80-120 should be a good starting point. Make sure to use a filter of some kind before the sprayer. Here's where I put mine. Also make sure to run the water in the "in" side of the solenoid. Been running them for years this way w/no issues. For future reference, Jetworks, Riva, and Atlantic Jet Sports also stock the solenoids in the $59 price range.
