LOL, My Dad built us one of those too back when I was a kid in the 70's... If was fun and had great torque.

exactly why the proper electric motor is better than a little go-ped motor.

Instant Torque on command as long as your not riding it down the beach with the ski on it.. and just from launch to truck/trailer i think it would work fine.

The problem with using a starter motor is they weren't designed for that.

You're going to have a cooling problem if you use a starter motor.

Nah, IMO it would be fine.
The mini bike my Dad made with a truck starter and a battery lasted about 15 minutes in the summer time and it hauled ass prolly 30 mph. We ran the snot out of that starter for 2 summers and it held up. It got to 30 mph in about 4 seconds. Masssive torque.
It just has to be geared properly for walking the cart up the beach for a minute or 2..

Dayum!! Badazz!! Bring it to Va.

its fun as hell, problem is it goes so fast and is so heavy its hard to control.....

I watched ewok take it off a ramp and jump it right into his legs right above the knee...took him down like a freaking cannonball..absolutely hysterical :fest30::Banane37::highhorse:

Thats a real good comparison..lol

Thats more like it... :fingersx:

I thought that'd put it into perspective for ya :laugh2:

50cc goped will push a 250lb person to 30mph with little effort ( first hand )

gearing and small frame will make it possible

3 weeks away from a prototype. no details on it for you guys until then.

interested to see what you guys come up with for this,we have a place we can ride that they leave us alone if you dont bring quads out on the beach, but its up a long hill back to the truck after you finish riding.....it just isnt worth it now

Here's a Honda mini-trail powered cart. It would be cool for those long hauls to the beach. I think with either electric or gas power, you're not dipping it in the water. We (the FX crew) all have big wheel style beach carts (home made) as of this year...gotta save that back. We all agree that we should have had them years ago.

You people saying a typical run of the mill goped engine can't pull 350-400lbs through sand at 1-2mph obviously have no idea of how gear ratio's can be manipulated to your advantage.

It you geared it right, you could pedal the damn thing. It wouldn't be very fast, but you could move it easily. Think of how many RPM's your legs can move, and then think of how many rpm's a goped motor turns @ WOT. Hell, just hink of how strong a simple hand drill is in low gear.

My vote would be to use a 5hp Briggs or something. Cheap, 4 stroke, can turn 3k+ RPM and parts are readily available.

After pulling 7-8 skis across some 300' of the deepest loosest Jerz gnar sand around, your exhausted before you push the start button. We do after 5pm renegade rides on the beaches here in the summer, and we waste too much of the short ride time launching skis. I know if we get something like that it will get us riding alot more this year.
