Just saw your thread for first time now, how did you get water in the tank? Glad to hear you figured it out.

Maybe you should put an edit at bottom of your first post that it wasnt an epic issue at all.

i left 2 of my fuel jugs outside for a while with fuel in them, so between the rain and all the heat and humidity we been having water just found its way in... jugs go in the shed now

My problem was little to no spark. It might spark 1 out of 20 revolutions of the crank. If I isolated the EPIC from the electrical box, it would fire perfectly. But, with the EPIC grounded to the box it not fire. With a new coil it fired right up.

Theory is the faulty coil was "leaking" high energy into the box and interfering with the EPIC. A stock CDI worked fine with the coil, but the EPIC is more sensitive to this kind of issue (being digital).
Did a new coil fix the issue I still have an issue with my epic it will not run correctly. It will also run on a stock ignition just fine.

Wish it had worked for me
ended up pulling the epic out and going to an msd enhancer, Goes well now.
Spent the last 6 mths changing parts to try and get the epic work, turned out it was the epic.
Bit of a shame to down money for the ignition plus the coils etc I replaced

My ski with epic and the ski of a friend with flame became hard to start......we put odyssey battery on it and no problem at all. Now I have tried flame ignition with shorai battery (12 cell) and it's OK.
I think digital ignition don't work with junk battery

Wax, it's weird that folks have had difficult times with the epic. I've run two different epics on two different motors and found them to be easy to setup and reliable. My only changes were things you've already swapped out...coils, batts, and grounds. I did go with fresh/new stators and new or refurbed plug wires. I loved the programmability and the no battery charging aspects of it. I never tried the TBM flywheel with one though...that's the only swap I wanted to try and never did. My #zero fw's worked well.

Yeah I have heard there are some people who are not having an issue. Mostly it seems like mild boats ie pipe and head seem to run just fine with them. Its when they start loading them up with porting etc there doesnt seem to be voltage to fire the plugs and they foul.
I changed every part of my ignition system that I can think of. I even put in a new regulator in case this was the issue. In the end its cost me heaps to find out that my cdi was faulty.

I know for a fact I am not the only suffering from these same issues

Ok I think I am having a similar issue so I will do some more testing and let others interested know what I find. It seems the factory cdi is very forgiving that is probably why the electronics last for 20 years but man from the looks of the basic pre loded safe maps the gains are going to be huge once I get the bugs worked out of my old as SN.
On a bit of a side note Steve from http://www.canadian-freestyle.com/ has been very helpful in getting me setup with the E.P.I.C. system even though I bought it from a forum member not direct from him he has shown the highest level of customer service he is very good to deal with.

Same story here. Little or no spark with the epic. I replaced the battery and the spark became stronger but still intermittent at times. Probably must be the coil - what do you guys propose - oem, MSD coil (if available), etc? I am also considering buying MSD but not a total loss system, just a system that would strengthen the spark (like used in cars)..good/bad idea. That MSD costs about 200 usd here so not too much..then I get the benefits of epic + strength of MSD..one way or the other we must find the root of the problem and propose a permanent fix to these spark issues...

Msd replacement coils for the stock Yamaha are known for there lack of reliability. I would avoid that at all costs. I tried a genuine brand new Yamaha coil it didnt fix my issues at all.

Has anyone that has had problems with an EPIC changed out their voltage regulator yet?

We have one ski with issues and that is the last component left that hasn't been changed. The EPIC is now in ThrillHills ski and running fine so it will be awhile before ScottS gets it back to try it again.

Yes I did

Boyer, its extremely unlikely that the rectifier/regulator would cause a problem as the Epic works with the AC voltage directly from the stator apart from the 12v DC that powers the circuitry. The only way I can see this happening is if the rectifier malfunctioned and put AC into the battery but you would know about this as the battery would not be very happy.
Hey Wax....Did you know that Epic has been accused of being responsible for the hole in the ozone layer down under?
Chris.

Ouch! I talked to Jim thursday night and knew it wasn't running but he had a bunch of things going wrong besides the ignition. Now he has to buy an EPIC and an Enhancer, lol. This has definately not been a good season for him but at least he had a good run up till now.

Let's hope the replacement EPIC solves all the issues. I still believe the problem lays in a bad circuit or faulty component on the power filter circuit and that they have it sorted for future modules.
