Freestyle Feedback on Mag impellers in OEM pumps

hey billy why did you opt for the setback option for freestyle when the website claims it adds topspeed and is useful on closed course racing. Was it because it can store a bit more water infront of the prop? I like that idea. But, I am asking because i don't think the setback pump needing a special driveshaft would be worth the hassle of getting the custom shafts. I like the idea of moving the pump back the 2" which is what i think you doing as well.

well my thought on that was the longer you can keep the pump fed with water the longer it can push you around on a flip. jetmaniac does a pretty cheap driveshaft.

Tricky ran 140 mags with anything from a Big Bore to 8mil lamey's that had hit right off the bottom.... 140 when the right prop is there will give plenty of bottom end.

it will give plenty of bottom end but as much as a 144 with a better prop or a 148? I rode a 4mm jetworks with 140 mag with art's jetting, timing, and prop combo setup over the phone. I was amazed at how much bottom end it did not have.

More story about the freestyle setups. part two.
I was aked to try the jetworks ski. It is all dialed in by the owner with input from Art. He asked me what i thought and i told him that the motor runs awesome but it had kawasaki syndrome. (don't confuse instant hookup with bottom end grunt) He rode my ski. At the time it was 735cc 190psi, TL, dual 48's, 144 tmb pump and the usual pipe and reeds etc. do you know what he said after? not much, he did spend the rest of the day under the hood. my penis grew 2" that day. I tuned my ski from information that people on this website have given out. People like SuperTune have made known how to setup a head pipe, amongst other valuable info taken from his sectet black book of dirty engine tricks. Of all the skis i have been on, his 828cc 5mm 61x/62t is what i have been chasing and based my performance on. I read about headpipe setups and used his info towards my ski. bam, hp found! thank you. Timing, well i can't just copy the timing from a 5mm over to my SS motor. WAXHEAD and QJS. these guys have given out too much info on making freestyle bottom end power. 32-34 static timing is only too much if your too old. it must be so frustrating for an engine builder whose job it is to sell motors, watch a motor leave his shop an go to someone with lots of money and no tuning skills. how many times do they have to post this stuff for people to clue in? i call what i see. I don't care whose initals are engraved on a motor, mine Totally Look Rad, and know its not Likely Ported Wrong. I make light of everything and deal with what ever comes my way.

Its even more frustrating for an engine builder to see his engine (that he sold to someone with more dollars than sense) show up a week later with burned pistons.

yup, i could see that happening alot to the builders of the world since they can't be there to actually ride/see the products of a poorly running motor. does any engine builder offer a warrenty?

yeah that would suck too. once it leaves his shop, he has no control of what happens. at least he can tell them what oil to run and what pump to buy so that they don't screw anything up. luckily the buyer has no sence and lots of dollars to buy everything.

motors blow, they shouldn't but they do. the more you know about what is going on with your ski, the less likely it is to happen. some times it is the riders fault sometimes it is part failure.

Of the typical engine builders that get listed here on the X, I haven’t ridden a motor that has been ported and built for freestyle power better than TS. and why? because he is working with pat freakin bogart freestyle pro rider! not saying others motors aren't good too, or that who ever builds eme motors or lenzi motors etc isn't as good or possibly better yet. but do you really want to spend extra money on a motor that the profit gets burned in helicopter fuel? pfft i will save my money for my own ferrari haha..

okay people, it is pretty much ride season and i will hide away and not bother any of you until next year. i will give a review of if i lost my ski in the lake or if it sucks and is ruined. I will stay within the gta thread to keep in contact with canadians. If you can get anything out of my thoughts at all, let it be this. I raised eyebrows with a smaller cc motor by tuning it myself than by what may just be done over the phone or read on the internet. The best tuner for your ski is you. I hope you guys all have a great season, try some new things, probably hear about what doesn’t work, but, ride hard, be safe, burn off most of your gas before you start your 3rd beer. bring your tools, wear a helmet, use a tether, think about what you buy and why. ride on.

edit: by growing my penis i meant that i learned something. my penis is only 4"....from the ground.

I see too many engines being sold used to step up to something bigger and better. Boats are sold complete and advertised as this or that shops best work. The truth is you never know what you are getting. Owners swap to try what somebody in the internet says is better or they drop the compression from the original intention for the engine or they go to a charging system from a total loss system. They swap out the impeller or change the nozzle or even mess with the head pipe screws and things get old like reeds, pistons, and carbs need maintenance. I do think that owners can mess things up while trying to improve things and wind up not even knowing what they did wrong. Thats why is is common knowledge that a properly tuned less extravagant engine will out perform a more extravagant one that is in poor stage of tune. I know from working on older dirt bikes that the simplest of things could throw things way out of tune.

It is good to share information that we learn here in forums but we have to figure out what is correct and what is not, that is the difficult part. And if we do learn something we should share it with our fellow riders and help them instead of making ourselves feel more knowledgable and just say our nose grew by two inches.
