First A/M freestyle hull…. Help

Hey I’m looking into purchasing my first freestyle hull. I’ll scoured through tons and tons of forums and not quite sure which hill I should be looking for/ settle with. I would be riding the ski mostly flat water just messing around the lake. The odd boat chase here or there. I know I would like something Yamaha based drivetrain for simplicity and reliability. What would you suggest not looking to break the bank but around $10,000 Would be my goal! There is a EME roid local I was considering. EME? BOB? WDK? RCW? Phantom? OR do I just get a RN superjet?

Thanks I’m advance!

What do you want to do with it? Freestyle is in your thread title but are you looking to do backflips and also go fast around the lake, put around and do mostly freestyle, mostly cruise the lake and occasionally try a backflop off a boat wake, something else?

Mostly looking to try flips, the odd putt around the lake that’s it. Looking for something thatll flip on a decent budget really. Not looking to go fast.

Toronto is about 6 hours from Wave Rave, second weekend in August (soneone please confirm that). Spend the weekend, beg/bribe others to try their skis. Hundreds will be present, based on prior years.

the campground (likely filled up, but dunno)

Awesome I will look into that for sure! I know there’s mild to wild in this sport looking to start fairly mild but something solid from the start.

Get the best hull you can. Full carbon, good brand, good model. Cheap DVX, helium, Xfs, TIGERCRAFT XI, etc. do not compromise on the hull. You can flip a good short carbon hull with a 701.

going completely against my own advice but there’s a WDK with a c1 1200 for $12k in for sale section. That’s a smokin deal.

Are these statements really compatible? Not trying to argue, but a helium is no fun to ride more than 50 yds from shore, IMO. Tons of capability to get acrobatic, but not a rec rider type thing.

I was really trying to get a complete build. I think that would be best bang for your buck just looking for the right hull. There are a couple rcw brawlers for sale and a hurricane. I know they are not the same quality standard as the ones you mentioned but would it be a good option?

If you haven't rode a big motor short ski. It's a good way to get hurt both physically and financially.

I'd get a am hull with a 701. I've seen a xfr and xfs both flat water flip with a 701. And throw 10 ft backflips off boat wakes

If you have a good young mentality. Not out dated. And you haven't fully ruined yourself riding older skis too much. You can absolutely develop a riding style that let's you ride short aftermarket hulls all over the lake. And run circles around the heavy old dinosaur superjets.

Sure. I could ride a long hull like a DVX around the lake all day.

You’ll be selling a brawler within a year. Stick to hulls that are popular.
