Other First motorcycle crash

It finally happened! Not too long ago I asked a bunch of you about financing a zx14. I went to a local dealer and found a ducati 848 evo instead, what a beautiful bike in matte white with red frame and wheels. I ended up buying it cash bc to finance requires full coverage which I was quoted $6000/year since im 22 yo. I bought a used 2011 in massachusetts for $10500 only 5k miles and put only liability on it. I registered it and 4 days later I was traveling down a 2 lane main road near my house. A bicyclist was traveling the same direction on the shoulder and as I passed he made a sudden left turn, I grabbed the front brake, the front tire skid and we collided. I went body first into the guy and his bicycle, giving me a deep 3" laceration on my hip. When I hit asphalt I was knocked out, suffered a concussion, broken hand and fractured collar bone. My ducati slid on its left side for about 600 ft. I awoke in a hospital not knowing how I got there, it took me 2 days before I started to realize what had really happened.

I was wearing my new alpinestars gp plus gloves, jacket and arai ducati corse helmet at the time. The helmet is jacked and they cut the jacket off me. I spent 5 days in the hospital, got surgery done on my hand and the collar bone supposed to heal in it's own :):):):)ed up way. When I was discharged I suprisingly only found minimal damage to the ducati. I am fixing it and will be back as soon as im healed good.

In the police report there's 2 witnesses stating the bicyclist didnt yield right of way. The guy is 52 yo and owns nothing so I cant sue. I only carried liability. My regular medical insurance denied bc they believe my auto insurance should cover everything even though they wont. I just paid $2300 for my sick cat, then the accident and then hurricane sandy. Its been a rough few weeks, but im staying optimistic. Theres people close to me who have had lost their homes and because of that I find myself very fortunate and I pray for those local to me.

Now for some pics... starting with when i first bought it.

Glad to hear you are OK, that is scary. I have to swerve or slam the brakes at least 3-4 times per day when I ride (every day commuter). Best wishes for a quick healing process and cheap parts for your repairs!

Hope you get better soon.... Nice bike, my buddy has a 12 848 evo... What happened to you is the reason I don't ride on the street anymore , no one looks out for the motorcycles...

take that bike to the track, few times there and your going to be hooked...

Damn that sucks, but I gotta say, that Duc is sexy as hell. Sooo much better looking (and handling I'm sure) than a whale of a ZX14. At least you were wearing gear!

I noticed my riding ablility on the street improved 10 fold when I starting doing track days. Even guys who don't ride hard should do some track days.....they help you stay calm and know how to handle those oh poop moments. BTW, I'm not implying this accident with the bicyclist could have been avoided.

Heal up man.

Be happy you are able to still say your name and go about life, Next decision should be to sell that bike.
This comes from a guy that spent two weeks in acoma after getting runover.
Heal quick, Get rid of that death machine.

Nice Duc! I recently got into riding with a Ducati Monster, and stuff like this scares the sh!7 out of me. I know it's bound to happen eventually, so I always try to be prepared and avoid hazards best I can. Atleast you have all winter to heal up for jetski season.

I sold my Tuono in Feb to support the ski addiction. Threw a leg across my pal's 1198s :scared: the other day and started gettin the itch again. Heal up quick man! Beautiful bike.

The 848 is a powerful motorcycle I cant imagine what the 1198 is like, I feel like that may be too much power for myself. The 848 has 140hp and because the suspension is too stiff for me (140lbs) the front end gets to lift way up exiting hard mid corners. Never got a chance to even set the suspension, I only had put 130 miles on it.
